Garnsey, Finger share top prize in Junior Tour stop at Odessa National

    The Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour shifted gears to its weekend fall schedule with a stop at Odessa National Golf Club in Townsend, Del. Saturday and a couple of Delaware girls, Cesar Rodney sophomore Reagan Garnsey of Camden-Wyoming and Archmere Academy freshman Meredith Finger of Wilmington stole the show.

   The talented youngsters finished tied atop the girls 13-to-15 division, each carding a 5-over-par 77.

   Garnsey made birdies at the fifth and 13th holes and had 11 pars on her scorecard, seven of them on the incoming nine at Odessa National, which she toured in even-par 36. Finger did most of her damage on the outgoing nine at Odessa National as she matched Garnsey’s birdie at the fifth hole and had seven of the 11 pars on her card on a front nine of even-par 36.

   Sarah Stumacher of Gladwyne took third place in the division with a solid 81 that included a birdie on the second hole and 10 pars.

   It was a home game for Kaitlynne Simmons as she finished in fourth place with a 92 not far from her Townsend, Del. home.

   Maya Kominka of Mickleton, N.J. took fifth place with a 93 and took low-Kominka honors as Carly Kominka, another member of Team Kominka out of Mickleton, N.J., and Krista Brosius of Magnolia, Del. finished in a tie for sixth, each carding a 101.

   Connie McReynolds of Wayne took eighth place with a 103, Anna Firko of Wilmington, Del. was ninth with a 106, Caitlyn Monestere of Downingtown was 10th with a 114 and Anika Fernandes of Radnor rounded out the field in the 13-to-15 division as she finished 11th with a 127.

   Daniel Shin of Horsham had the best score of the day among the guys as he claimed the top spot in the 16-to-18 division with a solid 5-over 77. Shin made a birdie at the sixth hole and then went back-to-back at 11 and 12 while touring the incoming nine at Odessa National in 1-under 35. Shin had nine pars on his scorecard.

   Thomas Kennedy of Collegeville went back-to-back with birdies at the fourth and fifth holes and had eight pars on his card as he earned runnerup honors with a 6-over 78.

   A couple of Wilmington, Del. guys, Darius Laws and Michael Dignazio, finished in a tie for third place, each landing on 79.

   Laws made an eagle on the par-5 11th hole and made a birdie on 12 on his way to a 1-under 35 on the back nine. He also made a birdie on the fifth hole and had nine pars on his card. Dignazio made a birdie on the 12th hole and had 12 pars on his card, including a run of six in a row to finish up the front nine from four through nine.

   Evan Gebhart of Magnolia, Del. took fifth place with an 85, Ian Miller of Wilmington, Del. was sixth with an 89, J.P. Devinney of Morton was seventh with a 91 and Zachery Whittaker of Middletown, Del. rounded out the field in the 16-to-18 division as he finished eighth with a 103.

   Nick Linkchorst of Glen Mills and Michael Liu of Garnet Valley shared top honors in the 13-to-15 division as each signed for an 81.

   Linkchorst made birdies at the sixth and 17th holes and had eight pars on his scorecard while Liu made birdies at the ninth, 14th and 15th holes and had seven pars on his card. Liu finished strong as he toured the incoming nine at Odessa National in even-par 36.

   Nick Belgrade of Wilmington, Del. was a shot behind the top two as he had 11 pars in a steady 82 that earned him a third-place finish.

   Michael Keller of Chadds Ford took fourth place with an 85, Braden Paris of Elkton, Md. was fifth with an 86, Jacob Gabbard of Lewes, Del. was sixth with an 87 and Anderson Brexler of Doylestown was seventh with a 91.

   Yaejoon Wee of Chesterbrook and Nicolas Gaughan of West Chester shared eighth place, each recording a 92 and Jack Okonowicz of Middletown, Del. rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as he finished alone in 10th place with a 93.

   Ian Rotto of Kennett Square continued his little late-summer hot streak as he bested the field of nine-holers with a 1-over 37. Rotto made birdies at the second, fifth and seventh holes and had three pars on his scorecard.

   Dane Mohap of Nazareth, who has been at or near the top of the coed 12-and-under leaderboard for the last couple of months, picked up another runnerup finish as he ended up three shots behind Rotto with a 4-over 40. Mohap made birdies at the fourth and ninth holes and had a par at three.

   Ruben Yoon of Magnolia, Del. and Grant MacColl of Haverford finished in a tie for third place, each landing on 42. Yoon made a birdie on the fifth hole and had three pars on his card while MacColl’s steady round featured five pars.

   Gavin Schraegle of Phoenixville, Ben Meixell of Wilmington, Del. and Jason Romano of Norristown finished in a tie for fifth place, each posting a 49.

   Rounding out the top 10 in the coed 12-and-under division were three players tied for eighth place, including Ryan Delaney of Pittsgrove, N.J., Jacob Russell of Wilmington, Del. and Megan Choi of Penn Valley, each of whom carded a 52.
