Gilbertsville’s Drew Steinmetz, a senior at The Hill School,
battled some tough conditions to card a 6-over-par 78 and claim the 16-to-18
division for the second straight day in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour
stop Tuesday at Doylestown Country Club.
Steinmetz, the son of Spring-Ford Country Club head pro Rich
Steinmetz (whose scholastic career at Perkiomen Valley I chronicled in a
previous lifetime as a sports guy at The Mercury in Pottstown), captured his
age group in a Junior Tour stop at North Hills Country Club with a 2-under 69
in better weather conditions Monday.
Steinmetz finished up his round on the 6,452-yard, par-72
William Flynn design at Doylestown with a birdie for a six-shot margin of
victory.
Brock Nestory of Doylestown and Michael Gallagher of
Mountainside, N.J. finished tied for second, each carding an 84.
Nicholas Hano of Warrington finished fourth with an 86,
Jason Swartz of Maple Glen was fifth with an 88, Tyler Dalzell of Warrington
was sixth with a 90 and Davis McCourt of Philadelphia was seventh with a 91.
Grant Molloy of Ambler and Jack Haggerty of Furlong shared
eighth place at 92 and a second Doylestown Nestory, Charles, rounded out the
top 10 with a 93.
Like Steinmetz, Jack Romeo of Ambler birdied the last to
take the top spot in the 13-to-15 division with an 85. Kevin Deng of Devon was
the runnerup with a 90.
Stephen Cain of Yardley finished third with a 90, Zachary
Conklin of Chalfont was fourth with a 93, Charlie Bastien of Media was fifth
with a 96 and Kyle Schlegel of Newtown was sixth with a 99.
The rest of the Media contingent rounded out the division as
Ryan Garvey was seventh with a 100, Liam Barkley was eighth with a 103 and
Matthew Barkley was ninth with a 113.
Molly Gregor of North Wales was the only entry in the girls
13-to-15 division and her 94 gave her her first win of the wrap-around 2017-18
campaign.
Sydney Yermish of Wynnewood, who moved up to take the
13-to-15 division at North Hills Monday, geared it back with the nine-holers
and took top honors with a 5-over 41. Yermish finished her round in style with
a birdie at the ninth. Ryan Murphy of Newtown was the runnerup with a 48.
Brendan Reilly of Warrington finished third with a 53, Sammi
Yeselavage of Doylestown was fourth with a 54 and Daniel Shin of Horsham was
fifth with a 56.
Dori Barson of Glenside and Caroline Gola of North Wales
finished tied for sixth, each posting a 57, Sophia Branca of Warrington was
eighth with a 63 and another of the Warrington Reillys, Emma, was ninth with a
65.
