Mark Sheftic, the head of instruction at Merion Golf Club,
added a 3-under 67 Monday to his opening-round 66 to claim the title in the
Burlington Classic Pro-Am at Burlington Country Club in Westampton, N.J. with a
36-hole total of 7-under 133.
Chris Krueger of Kings Creek Country Club had grabbed the
lead following Sunday’s opening round with a 6-under 64. But Sheftic took
control with three birdies on the front nine Monday and was never really
threatened.
Krueger ended up with a 2-over 72 to share second place with
Barry Dear of Twisted Dune at 4-under 136. Dear added a second-round 71 to his
opening-round 65. Hugo Mazzalupi of Patriots Glen National Golf Club finished
up with a 68 after opening with a 69 to finish fourth at 3-under 137.
Stu Ingraham, the head of instruction at the M Golf Range in
Newtown Square, made a run at the lead, but fell back with a 2-over 72 after an
opening-round 67 to finish tied for fifth at 1-under 139. Curtis Kirkpatrick of
Indian Springs Golf Club joined Ingraham at that figure with rounds of 65 and
74.
Concord Country Club head pro Mike Moses added a 1-under 69
to his opening-round 71 to finish in a tie for eighth at even-par 140. He was
joined at that figure by John Pillar of the Country Club at Woodloch Springs, who
had rounds of 72 and 68.
Rounding out the top 10 were three players who finished in a
tie for 10th at 1-over 141, including Jeff Bonicky (71-70) of Sea
Oaks Golf Club, Spring-Ford Country Club head pro Rich Steinmetz (68-73) and
Joe Kogelman (68-73) of GolfTEC Moorestown.
The top amateur prize went to T.J. Brennan, whose 157 total
was matched by Travis Mazurek. Brennan’s par on the second hole of a playoff
gave him the win over Mazurek.
