Mike Little, an assistant pro at Lookaway Golf Club, was in
the first group off in Monday’s Delaware Valley Open at Concord Country Club.
Little went out and posted a 4-under 67 and nobody came
closer than two shots of that score as Little captured the title in the
Philadelphia Section PGA event. Little got the best of the conditions, which
turned windier as the day wore on.
“I thing playing early was definitely an advantage as I was
able to get ahead of the windy conditions that came through in the afternoon,”
Little told the Philadelphia Section PGA website. “I putted great and was able
to take advantage of the opportunities that I had throughout the day.”
The DVO was also a Philadelphia PGA Assistant’s Organization
event and Little was the low assistant pro in the field.
Mike Meisenzahl of Shore Gate Country Club finished second
with a 2-under 69.
John Spina, the head pro at the Philadelphia Cricket Club’s
Wissahickon course, got his first career hole-in-one in a competitive round
when his 3-hybrid found the cup on the 235-yard fourth hole.
The ace helped Spina card a 1-under 70 that enabled him to
finish in a tie for third with Radnor Valley Country Club head pro George
Forster and Stu Ingraham, the head of instruction at the M Golf Range.
Forster and Ingraham shared the top spot among the Section’s
senior pros. They also look like their games are in good shape as they prepare
to represent the Section in the Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid,
a Champions Tour major championship which tees off May 26 at The Golf Club at
Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, Mich.
Three players – Bertus Wessels of Green Valley Country Club,
Kevin Kraft of the Bumble Bee Hollow Golf Center and Chris Krueger of Kings
Creek Country Club – matched par with 71s to share sixth place.
Five more players ended up at 1-over 72 and in a tie for
ninth. They were: Dave Pagett of Whitemarsh Valley Country Club; Mark Sheftic, the
head of instruction at Merion Golf Club; Greg Farrow of Deerwood Country Club;
and Bob Hennefer and Curtis Kirkpatrick, both coming out of the Indian Springs
Country Club pro shop.
