Some of the area’s best junior golfers descended on Delaware
County Saturday as one of the final events on the Philadelphia PGA Junior Tour’s
fall series was staged at Paxon Hollow Country Club.
After a brief frost delay, Penncrest junior Griffin Colvin,
a two-time district qualifier, carded an 81 over the 5,709-yard, par-71 Paxon
Hollow layout in the chilly conditions to finish in a tie for second in the
16-to-18 division. Shane McIntyre of Perkasie took top honors with an 80.
Also in the 16-to-18 division, Jack Hirsh of Villanova
finished in a tie for eighth with an 88 and Colvin’s Penncrest teammate, Cace
Strother, finished in a tie for 10th with a 91.
In the 13-to-15 age group, Ryan Brennan of Media finished second
with an 85. D.J. Colleran of Radnor and Connor Hale of Garnet Valley finished
in a tie for 11th with 98s, Matthew Hoppe of Garnet Valley finished 18th
with a 122 and Matthew Brennan of Media finished 19th with a 123.
In the girls 16-to-18 age group, Isabella Starke of West
Chester took top honors with a 96. Notre Dame sophomore Gabriella Morganti
finished third with a 103 and Julia Devine of Media finished fourth with a 104.
Katie Lee of Ringoes, N.J. fired an impressive 82 to take
top honors in the 13-to-15 division. Maggie Cass of Wayne finished second with
a 116.
Several of Delco’s youngest competitors teed it up for nine
holes at Paxon Hollow, led by Dolan Cox of Newtown Square, who had a 40 to
finish second, three shots back of Stephen Lorenzo of Lower Gwynedd. Lorenzo’s
37 made him the medalist among the nine-holers.
Hayden Smith of Havertown finished fifth with a 45, Ryan
Harvey of Havertown finished 11th with a 55, James Quinn of Radnor
finished 12th with a 57, Owen Harvey of Havertown finished 14th
with a 60 and Corey Kan of Boothwyn finished 16th with a 64.
