Dover junior Lawson Leeper, a PIAA Class AAA qualifier in each of the last two fall scholastic seasons, carded a 5-over-par 77 at Iron Valley Golf Club in Cornwall near Lebanon to claim the top spot in the 16-to-18 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop Sunday.
The Philly Junior Tour was forced to cancel Saturday’s stop at Landis Creek Golf Club in Limerick after overnight rains left the course unplayable. Things had dried up considerably for Sunday’s stop at Iron Valley, but it was still chilly and the wind kicked up as the day wore on.
Leeper made a birdie on the eighth hole and had 12 pars on his scorecard, including five straight pars to finish out his round.
Luke McGraw, a PIAA Class AAA qualifier as a sophomore at State College last fall, made birdies on the seventh and 16th holes and eight pars on his card as he finished just a shot behind Leeper in second place with a 6-over 78.
Joey Solt, a freshman on the Palmerton golf team, and Brayden Schnabel, a junior on Souderton’s golf team, finished in a tie for third place, each posting an 80.
Solt made birdies on the third and sixth holes and had eight pars on his card and Schnabel made a birdie at the second hole, an eagle at the par-5 16th and had seven pars on his card.
Hershey junior Keegan Redmond took fifth place with an 81, Isaac Birdsong of King of Prussia was sixth with an 82 and Jackson Murland, a Villanova resident and a sophomore at Friends’ Central and Tyler Harris of Cinnaminson, N.J. finished in a tie for seventh place, each recording an 83.
Ty Sheftic, a sophomore on the Wissahickon golf team, took ninth place with an 84 and Zach Raihill, a West Chester Rustin junior, rounded out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division as he finished 10th with an 86.
Daniel Ross of Harleysville made birdies on the third and 16th holes and had seven pars on his scorecard as he finished at the top of the scoreboard in the 13-to-15 division with an 82.
Samuel Vinc of Brockton made a birdie on the sixth hole and had six pars on his card as he finished two shots behind Ross in second place with an 84.
Jake Julian of Malvern had seven pars on his card as he finished another shot behind Vinc in third place with an 85.
Collin Padovani, a freshman on the Northern Lebanon golf team, and Winston Chew of Exton shared fourth place, each recording an 86, James Kulesa of Doylestown was sixth with a 90, Drew Gebhard, playing not from his Lebanon home, was seventh with an 82 and Max Straub of Lancaster was eighth with a 93.
Steven Musacchio of Glenmoore took ninth place with a 94 and Landon Chandler of Lancaster rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as he finished alone in 10th with a 95.
Gabrielle Kim of Ambler made a birdie on the sixth hole and had four pars on her scorecard as she claimed a Philly Junior Tour victory in the girls 13-to-15 division with a 92.
Lauren Springman, a sophomore on the Methacton girls team, made a birdie on the 16th hole and had three pars on her card as she rounded out the field in the 13-to-15 division by finishing in second place with a 96.
Preston Minio of Lansdale finished up with a birdie on the ninth hole and had seven pars on his scorecard as he bested the field of boys 12-and-under nine-holers with an even-par 36.
Mino preceded his birdie at the ninth hole with five straight pars as he went 1-under over the final six holes of his round.
Charlie Sears of Wilmington, Del. made birdies at the second and ninth holes and had three pars on his card as he earned runnerup honors with a 5-over 41.
Joey Charpentier of Schwenksville made a birdie on the second hole and had three pars on his card as he finished two shots behind Sears in third place with a 43.
Victor Wang of Hockessin, Del. took fourth place with a 45, Jaxson Freeborn of Reading was fifth with a 46 and Dean Matta of West Grove, Connor Masulis of Pottstown and Noah Howard of Lafayette Hill finished in a tie for sixth place, each signing for a 47.
Reed Starzecki of Bryn Mawr took ninth place with a 51, Jonathan Thomas of Landenberg was 10th with a 52 and Jasper Zhang of West Chester rounded out the field in the boys 12-and-under division as he finished 11th with a 57.
Aashi Chakraborty of Kennett Square made a par on the fifth hole as she bested the field of girls 12-and-under nine-holers with a 51.
Sophia Kim of Chester Springs made a par on the fifth hole as she and Charlotte Cabot of Newtown rounded out the girls 12-and-under field, finishing in a tie for second place, each tallying a 58.
