Parrish edges Sung by two shots to earn a Philly Junior Tour victory at Odessa National

 

   Christopher Parrish of Woolwich Township, N.J. and Conestoga junior Chris Sung, two of the four players who shared medalist honors in last month’s Junior Tour Championship at Chester Valley Golf Club, finished 1-2, respectively, in the 16-to-18 division at Odessa National Golf Club in Townsend, Del. Sept. 7th as the Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour reverted to its weekend schedule with school back in session.

   Parrish made an eagle at the par-4 12th hole, added birdies at four and 16 and had 11 pars on his scorecard as he matched par with a 72 to finish at the top of the leaderboard.

   Sung made birdies at the ninth and 16th holes and had 13 pars on his card, including a string of five pars in a row from the second through the sixth holes, as he earned runnerup honors with a 2-over 74 that left him two shots behind Parrish.

   Wyatt Cudmore of Elkton, Md. made birdies at the fourth, 12th and 17th holes and had 12 pars on his card as he finished five shots behind Sung in third place with a 79.

   Nick Linkchorst, a senior on the West Chester Rustin golf team, and Andrew Rindgen of Havertown shared fourth place, each signing for an 80, Matthew Duphorn of Erial, N.J. was sixth with an 82 and Archmere Academy junior Michael Liu, who helped the Auks capture the state team title in the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) Championship in the spring, was seventh with an 86.

   Michael Doyle of Haddonfield, N.J. took eighth place with a 92 and James Gates of Ardmore rounded out the field in the 16-to-18 division as he finished ninth with a 110.

   Trebor Melendez of Vineland, N.J. made a birdie on the fifth hole and had 14 pars on his scorecard, rattling off six pars in a row from the 11th through the 16th holes, as he finished at the top of the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division with a solid 3-over 75.

   Will Simonson of Haddonfield, N.J. made birdies at the third, fifth and 16th holes and had eight pars on his card, including a string of six straight pars from the sixth through the 11th holes, as he finished a shot behind Melendez in second place with a 4-over 76.

   Henry Sokol of Villanova made birdies at the fifth and 15th holes and had nine pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Simonson in third place with a 5-over 77.

   Brendan Schott of Wilmington, Del. took fourth place with a 78 and Trevor Sieben of Medford, N.J. and Ian Rotto of Kennett Square shared fifth, each posting an 81.

   Charles Ball of West Chester and Parker Alivernini, another Wilmington, Del. entry, finished in a tie for seventh place, each signing for an 83.

   Jack Sokol, the twin brother of Henry Sokol, took ninth place with an 84 and Haden Mazurek of Middletown, Del. rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as he finished 10th with an 85.

   The best score among the girls came out of the 13-to-15 division as Anna Rufo, a sophomore at Agnes Irwin from Gladwyne, made bookend birdies at the first and 18th holes and had six pars on her scorecard in between those birdies as she registered a solid 83.

   Megan Choi of Penn Valley made a birdie on the 12th hole and had five pars on her card as she earned runnerup honors with an 88.

   Marietta Hartmann of Devon made a birdie on the ninth hole and had five pars on her card as she finished two shots behind Choi in third place with a 90.

   Gabrielle Hamstead of Milton, Del. took fourth place with a 93, Hadley Stetson of Newtown Square was fifth with a 105 and Allison Murphy of Cummings rounded out the field in the 13-to-15 division as she finished sixth with a 125.

   Krista Brosius, a senior at Caesar Rodney High, made a birdie at the 15th hole and had five pars on her scorecard as she claimed a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division with a solid 85.

   Brooke Burge of Middletown, Del. rounded out a short field in the 16-to-18 division as she made pars on the fifth and seventh holes on her way to a runnerup finish with a 107.

   Peter Van Dalen of Rehoboth Beach, Del. had four pars on his scorecard as he bested the field of nine-holes with a 5-over 42.

   Niko Muego of Bryn Mawr also had four pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Van Dalen in second place with a 42. Muego got a share of medalist honors in last month’s Philly Junior Tour 12-and-under Championship at McCall Golf Club.

   Victor Wang of Hockessin, Del. finished up his round with a birdie at the ninth hole and had three pars on his card as he ended up in third place with a 44.

   A couple of Wilmington, Del. guys, James Wilson and Charlie Sears, accounted for the next two spots on the leaderboard as Wilson took fourth place with a 46 and Sears was fifth with a 51.

   Ryan Wilkin of Malvern took sixth place with a 52, Benjamin Adkins of Lewes, Del. was seventh with a 53 and Carter Tracy of Smyrna, Del. and Mia DeCarlo of Glen Mills finished in a tie for eighth, each registering a 56.

   Alex Cheng of Wilmington, Del. rounded out the field in the coed 12-and-under division as he finished in 10th place with a 61.
