Mazzalupi, Dignazio, Legarda finish in a tie for top spot in Phlly Junior Tour stop at Ramblewood

Radnor senior Shaun Mazzalupi, coming off a victory a day earlier at Tanglewood Manor Golf Club, shared the top spot in the 16-to-18 division with Michael Dignazio of Wilmington, Del. and Ethan Legarda of Voorhees, N.J., each carding a 1-over-par 73 in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop at Ramblewood Country Club in Mt. Laurel, N.J.  July 26th.

Looks like the stop at Ramblewood was part of a Junior Golf Scoreboard (JGS) series coupled with the Philly Junior Tour stop the next day at Running Deer Golf Club in Pittsgrove, N.J. JGS events can earn players points that can give them some status on some of the higher-level junior circuits like the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), among others.

I’ll try to reference the top finishers over both days when I get to the post on the Philly Junior Tour event at Running Deer.

One of those players is Mazzalupi, whose game was on target in the final week of July, despite soaring temperatures and high humidity.

Mazzalupi, a two-time PIAA Class AAA qualifier, was particularly hot on the outgoing nine at Ramblewood with birdies at the fourth, fifth and eighth holes. He added a fourth birdie at Ramblewood’s closing hole and had 12 pars on his scorecard.

Dignazio, who helped Tower Hill School claim the team crown in the Delaware Championship at Baywood Greens as a junior in the spring, made birdies at the first, seventh, 16th and 18th holes and had 10 pars on his card in matching Mazzalupi’s 1-over total.

Legarda’s steady round featured 17 pars against one bogey. I’m sure Legarda had some good looks at birdie, but 17 pars show he never stopped grinding.

Tommy Marshall of Marlton, N.J. and Justin Forman of Sewell, N.J. finished a shot behind the top three in a tie for fourth place, each posting a 2-over 74.

Gavin Dirkes of Berwyn and James Ciesielka of Woolwich Township, N.J. shared sixth place, each recording a 76, and Joshua Emel of Wilmington, Del. finished alone in eighth place with a 77.

Rounding out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division were Liam Shearn of Ardmore and Luke Tappeiner of Northfield, N.J. as they finished in a tie for ninth place, each registering a 78. Pretty competitive division with only five shots separating first place from the duo tied for ninth.

Trevor Sieben of Medford, N.J. and P.J. Foley of Northfield, N.J. finished in a tie for first place in the 13-to-15 division, each carding a solid 2-over 74. That left them in a tie for fourth place with Marshall and Forman from the older group of players in the overall scoring for all players ages 13 to 18.

Sieben made birdies on the seventh and 12th holes and had 12 pars on his scorecard, including six straight pars to close out his round. Foley made birdies at the fourth, sixth, seventh and 12th holes and had eight pars on his card.

Paul Reilly of West Creek, N.J. had birdies at the eighth and 10th holes and had 11 pars on his card as he finished in third place among the younger guys with a 3-over 75. Reilly’s solid round landed him in eighth place in the overall scoring.

Jackson Lane of Cinnaminson, N.J. took fourth place in the 13-to-15 division with a 76, Quin Zuegner of New Hope was fifth with a 77 and Judd Fletcher of Moorestown, N.J. and Quinton Joiner of Millington, Md. finished in a tie for sixth place, each posting a 79.

Michael Liu of Garnet Valley and Daniel Herzchel of Linwood, N.J. shared eighth place, each recording an 80 and Landon Finsen of Westampton, N.J. and Christopher Mark Parrish of Woolwich Township, N.J. rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as they finished in a tie for 10th, each registering an 83.

The best score in the girls divisions was recorded by Carly Kuminka of Mickleton, N.J. as she claimed a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division with a 91. Kuminka made a birdie at the 15th hole and had five pars on her scorecard.

Upper Merion junior Alyssa Schuebel rounded out a short field in the 16-to-18 division as she finished in second place with a 105.

Macai Klein of Moorestown, N.J. had four pars on her scorecard as she earned a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 13-to-15 division with a 92.

Amita Oberoi of Cherry Hill, N.J. had two pars on her card and she was the runnerup among the younger girls with a 96.

Rounding out the field in the 13-to-15 division was Masey Heenan of Ocean City, N.J. as she finished in third place with a 111.

Rayan Shah of Newtown made a birdie on the seventh hole and had seven pars on his scorecard as he bested the field of nine-holers with a really solid even-par 36 on Ramblewood’s front nine. Shah has been a fixture on the leaderboard in the coed 12-and-under division all summer.

Jack Sokol of Villanova and Lucas Solano of Vineland, N.J. finished in a tie for second place, each carding a 6-over 42. Jack Sokol got off to a good start with a birdie on the first hole and had two pars on his card while Solano had four pars on his card.

Henry Sokol, another member of Villanova’s Team Sokol, took fourth place with a 44, Chase Tarantino of Yardley was fifth with a 45 and Gavin Lane of Team Lane out of Cinnaminson, N.J. and Jason Leekley of Moorestown, N.J. finished in a tie for sixth, each registering a 47.

Nathan Lavin of Burlington, N.J. took eighth place with a 48, Mallie Heenan, another member of Team Heenan out of Ocean City, N.J., was ninth with a 52, Victor Wang of Hockessin, Del. was 10th with a 53 and David Gilman of Cape May Court House, N.J. rounded out the field in the coed 12-and-under division, finishing 11th with a 57.
