Mitchell soars to a Junior Tour victory at Ramblewood

Sam Mitchell of Pottstown made an eagle on the par-5 seventh hole at Ramblewood Country Club in Mt. Laurel Township, N.J. on his way to a 1-under-par 71 that gave him a victory in the 16-to-18 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop July 28th.

It was the second half of a Junior Golf Scoreboard South Jersey Series that week that had opened a day earlier at Running Deer Golf Club in Pittsgrove, N.J.

Mitchell also made birdies at the eighth, 10th and 15th holes and had 10 pars on his scorecard to keep it in red figures over the par-72 Ramblewood layout.

Justin Forman of Sewell, N.J. and Jeremiah Brown of Audubon finished in a tie for second place, each landing on 2-over 74.

Forman made birdies on the fifth, seventh and 17th holes and had 11 pars on his card while Brown made birdies at 15 and 18 and had 12 pars on his card.

Sebastian Botero of Abington was another shot behind Forman and Brown in fourth place with a 75.

Tommy Marshall of Marlton, N.J, coming off a victory in the 16-to-18 division a day earlier at Running Deer, and Charles Ota of Blue Bell shared fifth place, each signing for a 76.

Manraj Grewal of Newtown took seventh place with an 81 and Jake Guenther of Sea Isle City, N.J. and Samuel Morris of Riverton, N.J. finished in a tie for eighth, each landing on 83.

Rounding out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division was A.J. Tedeschi of Marlton, N.J. as he carded an 86 to finish alone in 10th place.

La Salle junior Ethan Martin put together a really solid round as he matched Mitchell for the low round of the day with a 1-under 71 that gave him top honors in the 13-to-15 division.

Martin, a PIAA Class AAA qualifier last fall, made birdies at the third and 16th holes and had 15 pars on his scorecard, including a run of 12 in a row from four through 15 in between his birdies. It was Martin’s second win of the week as he had shared first place in the 13-to-15 division two days earlier at Northampton Valley Country Club.

P.J. Foley of Northfield, N.J. was the runnerup to Martin with a 3-over 75 in a roller-coaster ride of a round that included an eagle at the par-5 third hole, birdies at two, six, eight, 13, 14 and 18 and three pars.

Paul Reilly of West Creek, N.J. and Alec Thiele of Philadelphia finished in a tie for third place, each recording a 76.

Reilly had 14 pars on his card, eight of them on Ramblewood’s incoming nine. Thiele, coming off a victory in the 13-to-15 division a day earlier at Running Deer, made birdies at the ninth, 13th, 16th and 17th holes and had six pars on his card.

Three players finished in a tie for fifth place at 78, including Gavin Pychinka of Northampton, Ben Mayer of Garnet Valley and Luke Tappeiner of Northfield, N.J.

John Diamond of Philadelphia took eighth place with an 80 and Dylan Rothenberg of Moorestown, N.J. was ninth with an 81.

Rounding out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division was Daniel Herzchel of Linwood, N.J. as he finished alone in 10th place with an 83.

The best score among the girls came out of the 13-to-15 division as Katherine Liu of Moorestown, N.J. made an eagle on the par-5 third hole and a birdie at four to go with seven pars as she claimed a victory with a 6-over 78.

Upper Dublin junior Talia Hoffner matched Liu’s birdie at the fourth hole and had eight pars on her scorecard as she earned runnerup honors with an 81.

Katherine Lee, playing not far from her Mt. Laurel, N.J. home, took third place with a 91 that featured four pars.

Team Kuminka of Mickelton, N.J. accounted for the final two spots in the 13-to-15 division field as Carly Kuminka took fourth place with an 85 and Maya Kuminka was fifth with a 103.

Hannah Puc of Marlton, N.J. completed a sweep of the two South Jersey Series stops as she birdied the second hole and had 10 pars on her scorecard on her way to a solid 7-over 79 that enabled her to finish atop the leaderboard in the 16-to-18 division.

Puc captured a victory in the stop a day earlier with an 83 at Running Deer.

Yasmeen Muhammad of Barnegat, N.J. had seven pars on her card as she was the runnerup to Puc with an 87. Grace Klements of Little Egg Harbor, N.J. took third place as she had four pars on her card on her way to an 89.

Rounding out the field in the 16-to-18 division was Sehyr Singh of Mt. Laurel, N.J. as she finished alone in fourth place with a 99.

Dane Mohap of Nazareth continued his winning ways as he and Judd Fletcher of Moorestown, N.J. landed atop the field of nine-holers as each posted a solid 1-over 37.

Mohap, who owns more than a dozen Philly Junior Tour victories this season, added to his total as he had eight pars on his scorecard, including seven straight to conclude his round. Fletcher, coming off a tie for second place a day earlier at Running Deer, made birdies at the second and eighth holes and had five pars on his card.

Anthony Primo of Marlton, N.J. was two shots behind Mohap and Fletcher in third place as he had six pars on his card on his way to a 3-over 39.

Jackson Lane of Cinnaminson, N.J. was a shot behind Primo in fourth place with a 40. Jackson Lane had shared second place with Fletcher at Running Deer. It was another shot back to Ian Rotto of Kennett Square as he finished in fifth place with a 41.

Another member of Team Lane of Cinnaminson, N.J., Gavin Lane, and Chloe Donohue of Moorestown, N.J. finished in a tie for sixth place, each signing for a 42.

Max Davis of Newtown Square and Evan Hahn of Berlin, N.J. shared eighth place, each landing on 48.
