Kancher wraps up Junor Tour's fall campaign on a winning note at Shore Gate

Hank Kancher of Philadelphia is one of those youngsters who has made slow, but steady progress while competing on the Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour.

He went from a guy who rarely contended in the coed 12-and-under division to one who regularly battled it out in the recently completed 2019-2020 season with an increasingly competitive bunch of nine-holers.

Kancher closed out the fall portion of the 2020-’21 wraparound season in style Sunday, winning the 13-to-15 division with the best score of the day among the guys overall, a 9-over-par 81 in gusty winds at Shore Gate Golf Club in Ocean View, N.J.

Kancher got off to a great start on the 6,391-yard, par-72 Shore Gate layout with birdies on the first two holes and had six pars on his scorecard in claiming his first win of the season.

Brady Gallagher of Quakertown was a shot behind Kancher in second place with an 82 as he had nine pars, including a run of five in a row from the end of the front nine into the beginning of the back nine.

Strath Haven sophomore Tyler Debusschere capped a strong fall campaign on the Philly Junior Tour as he was a shot behind Gallagher in third place with an 83. Debusschere, coming off a Junior Tour victory Saturday at Pitman Golf Course in Sewell, N.J., birdied the par-4 12th hole and the par-5 16th and had six pars on his scorecard to highlight a solid showing.

Justin Forman of Sewell, N.J. finished in fourth place with a 92, A.J. Molnar of Jamison was fifth with a 93 and Daniel Herzchel of Linwood, N.J. was sixth with a 101.

Zachary Freed, another Linwood, N.J. entry, took seventh place with a 104 and Liam Gamble of Line Lexington rounded out the 13-to-15 field as he finished eighth with a 122.

Charlie Kerprich of Dresher birdied the first hole and had six pars as his 83 landed him atop the leaderboard in the 16-to-18 division for his first win of the wraparound 2020-’21 season.

Cole Apeldorn of Southampton parred the first two holes and sprinkled five more pars throughout the rest of his round to claim runnerup honors with an 85. Evan Goldberg of Linwood, N.J. had six pars, three on each side, as he finished in third place with an 87.

Joshua Murphy took fourth place with a 91, Donald Sludmark of Normandy Beach, N.J. was fifth with a 93 and Ryan Garvey of Media rounded out the 16-to-18 division as he finished sixth with a 97.

Katrina Cabinian of Egg Harbor Township, N.J. battled the gusty winds and recorded an 86 that earned her medalist honors in the girls 16-to-18 division. Cabinian birdied the par-3 17th hole and had six pars on her scorecard in claiming her first Junior Tour victory of the still young season.

Carly Gavant of Hoboken, N.J. was the runnerup with a 105 and Sophia Chesner of Moorestown, N.J. rounded out the 16-to-18 field as she finished third with a 112.

Sophia DeSantis of Glen Mills was the only entrant in the 13-to-15 division and she opened with a par on the first hole, one of three she had for the round, as she signed for a 106.

Trevor Sieben of Medford, N.J. parred the first two holes and had three more pars on his scorecard as he bested the field of nine-holers with a 5-over 41.

Ian Larsen of Glenmoore, coming off a victory in the coed 12-and-under division in Saturday’s Junior Tour stop at Pitman, rattled off five straight pars in the middle of his round to earn runnerup honors, two shots behind Sieben at 7-over 43. Jason Mack of Delaware Water Gap, coming off a tie for second Saturday at Pitman, had another strong showing at Shore Gate, finishing alone in third place with a 44. Mack parred the first hole and added two more pars throughout his round.

Keller Tannehill of Margate, N.J. and Jack Forstein of Moorestown, N.J. finished in a tie for fourth place, each registering a 44. Benjamin Mayer of Garnet Valley took sixth place with a 47 and Juliana Duggan of Egg Harbor Township, N.J. was seventh with a 51.
