Holy Ghost Prep sophomore Calen Sanderson tuned up for the
scholastic postseason with a sparkling 2-under-par 68 that gave him the top
spot in the 16-to-18 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop at
The Bucks Club in Jamison as summer weather continued to hang on Saturday.
Sanderson got off to a fast start over the 6,210-yard,
par-70 Bucks Club layout with birdies at third and fifth holes. He didn’t let a
bogey at the sixth hole halt his momentum as Sanderson recorded back-to-back
birdies at the eighth and ninth holes for a 3-under front nine. He got one more
on the incoming nine to give him five birdies for the round.
It was 10 shots back to Christopher Waldmann of Malvern and Central
Bucks West sophomore Kevin Lydon as they shared second place, each posting a
78. Waldmann had four birdies, two on each side, while Lydon had three birdies
on the front nine and four pars on the incoming nine.
Methacton junior Jason Rieger finished alone in fourth place
with an 83 and Luke Ciccarelli of Danville was another shot behind Rieger in
fifth place with an 84.
A.J. Pirog of Doylestown took sixth place with a 93, Will
Locovare of Warrington was seventh with a 96 and William Boyce of Elkton, Md.
was eighth with a 97.
John Lee of Jamison had four birdies, two on each side, on
his way to a 4-over 74 that earned him top honors in the 13-to-15 division.
Jacob Boyce of Team Boyce of Elkton, Md. and Alexander
Feraco of Furlong shared second place, each posting a 79. Jacob Boyce had nine
pars and Feraco had 11 pars on his scorecard. Reed Krosse finished alone in
fourth place with an 80 and Tyler Leyden of Glenside was fifth with an 81.
Another member of Team Boyce of Elkton, Md., Mike Boyce, and
Kristof Kopecky of Garnet Valley shared sixth place, each carding an 85.
Scott Hughes of Ambler finished in eighth place with an 86
and Christian Deussing of Solebury and Franklin Zhu of Warren, N.J. rounded out
the top 10 as they finished in a tie for ninth place, each posting an 87.
The 13-to-15 division was particularly competitive at The
Bucks Club with 33 players teeing it up.
Kate Roberts of Phoenixville had five pars, three on the
front nine and two on the back nine, as she carded a 93 to claim a victory in
the girls 13-to-15 division. Lilly Press of Bryn Mawr had three pars, two of
them on par-3s, as she earned runnerup honors with a 99.
Kayley Roberts of Phoenixville’s Team Roberts had four pars
to take third place with a 100. Emma Li of Newtown finished in fourth place
with a 110, Meredith Beyer of Avondale was fifth with a 120 and Leah Armour of
Doylestown was sixth with a 126.
Matthew Sanderson made it two gold medals for Newtown’s Team
Sanderson as he shared first place among the nine-holers with Hank Kancher of
Philadelphia, each signing for a 7-over 43. Matthew Sanderson had four pars in
his round while a birdie at the par-5 seventh hole highlighted Kancher’s round.
Jake Grossman of Elkins Park birdied the sixth hole as he
finished alone in third place with a 44. Paul Reilly of West Creek, N.J. and
Ravi Khanna of Bryn Mawr shared fourth place, each posting a 49.
A.J. Molnar of Jamison took sixth place with a 54, Reagan
McGruther of Downingtown and Max Myers of Furlong finished in a tie for seventh
place, each carding a 57, and Bryn Krosse of York’s Team Krosse was ninth with
a 70.
