Double eagle helps Zimmer earn Junior Tour win at Wildwood

   There is only feat that’s tougher to accomplish on a golf course than a hole-in-one and that’s the double eagle.

    Tyler Zimmer of Bryn Mawr got himself one of those Wednesday, holing out his second shot on one of the par-5 holes at the Wildwood Golf & Country Club, and it led to a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in the 13-to-15 age group.

   Zimmer also had three birdies on his way to a sparkling 1-under-par 71 over the 6,319-yard, par-72 Wildwood layout that was seven shots better than the next closest finisher in his age group. Michael Mitnick of Linwood, N.J. was the runnerup with a 78.

   Nicky Scarpone of Broomall finished third with a 79 and Luke Watson of Royersford was fourth with an 81.

   Jack Davis of Newtown Square and Ryan McCabe of Media finished tied for fifth, each carding an 82, and David Fitzgerald Jr. of Bryn Mawr and Kevin Motil of Sewell, N.J. shared seventh place at 83.

   Jackson Putney of Egg Harbor Township, N.J. finished alone in ninth place with an 84 and Chase Cohen of Villanova rounded out the top 10 with an 85.

   Jack Sullivan of Petersburg, N.J. had three birdies to top the field in the 16-to-18 division for his second career Junior Tour victory with a 1-over 73. Christopher D’Alessandro of Waretown, N.J. was the runnerup with a 4-over 76.

   Jack McCarthy of Landenberg finished third with a 79 and Nathan Potts of Wilmington, Del. and Matthew Fleming of Richboro finished tied for fourth, each posting an 82. Joseph Dougherty of Drexel Hill finished alone in sixth with an 83.

   Christopher Colman of Wenonah, N.J. and Matthew Thomas of Mount Laurel, N.J. shared seventh place at 84 and Joe Polidoro of Glassboro, N.J. and Jackson Paradee of Dover, Del. rounded out the top 10 as they finished tied for ninth at  85.

   The winners of both the girls 16-to-18 and 13-to-15 divisions, Amanda Jones and Lauren Jones, both of Newtown Square and both of whom play out of Merion Golf Club, teamed up to finish second in the girls division in the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s Francis X. Hussey Memorial Monday at Rolling Green Golf Club. Pretty sure they’re sisters and pretty sure their mom was a pretty good high school golfer at Haverford High back in the day.

   Amanda Jones claimed the top spot in the 16-to-18 division, her first Junior Tour victory, with a 97. Olivia Morgan of Meadowbrook was the runnerup with a 115.

   Lauren Jones bested the field in the 13-to-15 division, her first Junior Tour victory as well, with an 87.  Olivia Strigh of Hammonton, N.J. was the runnerup with a 90.

   The next two spots were filled by the winning team in the girls division at the Hussey, Riley Quartermain of Bryn Mawr and who plays out of Llanerch Country Club and Kathleen Mark of Media and who plays out of Rolling Green, finished third and fourth with respective scores of 92 and 97.

   Sydney Yermish of Wynnewood has been knocking on the door and finally gained her first Junior Tour win as she birdied the seventh hole on her way to a 7-over 43 that gave her the top spot among the nine-holers.

   Joseph Fargnoli of Laurel Springs, N.J. was the runnerup with a 51. Ryan Murphy of Newtown and Gwendolyn Powell of Madison Township shared third place, each carding a 52. Luca Gherardi of Hammonton, N.J. finished fifth with a 54.

   Santino Fargnoli of Hammonton, N.J., likely the younger brother of runnerup Joseph Fargnoli, finished sixth with a 58 and Paul Reilly of West Creek, N.J. took seventh with a 59.
