Leta piles up the points in Frank H. Chapman Memorial Cup (Net) victory

Blue Bell Country Club’s Antonio Leta got off to a good start with a birdie on the first hole and rode the momentum to a victory in the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s Frank H. Chapman Memorial Cup (Net) Tuesday at Heidelberg Country Club in Bernville, Berks County.
Leta didn’t think his nine handicap would give him much of a chance in the event, which utilized the Stableford scoring system. But things started looking up when he rammed home a 25-foot birdie putt on the par-4 first hole at the 5,870-yard, par-70 Heidelberg layout.
Leta ended up with a steady round that included a net eagle, five birdies and seven pars. It all added up to 37 points and a one-point margin of victory over runnerup Hank Collins of the Philadelphia Publinks Golf Association.
Timothy Kiorpes of Lookaway Golf Club was alone in third place with 35 points. Talamore Country Club’s Hal Morris and David Spirt and Ned Moore of Manufacturers Golf & Country Club finished in a tie for fourth, each player finishing with 34 points.
Manufacturers’ W. Frank Skilton and Rick Rutter and Edward Brzezowski of Concord Country Club shared seventh place, each posting 33 points.
Six players – Plymouth Country Club’s Charles Caparo, Philadelphia Publinks representative William Erskine, Lancaster Country Club’s Andy McCormick, Llanerch Country Club’s Richard Turner, LuLu Country Club’s Don Neill and Little Mill Country Club’s Joseph Martin – finished in a tie for 10th with 32 points apiece.
