Kan, Walker will take shot at berth in ShopRite LPGA Classic

Two thirds of the Pennsylvania team that finished third in last fall’s USGA Women’s State Team Championship will be represented in qualifying for the final spot in the field for this week’s ShopRite LPGA Classic presented by Acer.
Aurora Kan, the 2010 PIAA champion from Chichester who went on to have outstanding collegiate career at Purdue, and Brynn Walker, the 2014 and 2015 PIAA Class AAA champion at Radnor, will tee it up Monday afternoon at the Stockton Seaview Golf Club’s Bay Course.
Kan and Walker teamed up with former Penn State standout Ellen Ceresko at the USGA State Team Championship at the Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, Mo. as Pennsylvania placed third behind traditional powers Georgia and Florida.
Kan emerged with the lone berth out of an amateur pre-qualifying event Sunday at Seaview.  The field had a very District One feel to it as recent standouts who teed it up included Madelein Herr, Walker’s partner at last week’s U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship who won the district title as a Council Rock North senior last fall, former Pennsbury standout Jackie Rogowicz, former Villa Maria Academy standout Cara Basso, and Isabella DiLisio, the 2013 PIAA Class AAA champion at Mount St. Joseph.
Rogowicz and Basso are coming off solid freshman seasons at Penn State and DiLisio was a key member as a freshman on one of the best Notre Dame teams in the program’s history.
Walker, who is headed for North Carolina to start her collegiate career this summer, had won the amateur pre-qualifying event a year ago and was granted an exemption into Monday’s pro qualifier.
Kan will run into another former scholastic rival as joining her in the 1:33 p.m. group Monday is Emily Gimpel, the former Mount St. Joseph standout who is playing professionally on the Symetra Tour.  Walker is in the next group that tees off at 1:44 p.m.
Not sure what the Plan B is if the expected weather makes the Bay Course unplayable, but the main event, the ShopRite LPGA Classic presented by Acer tees off Friday.
