Was it the luck of the Irish on St. Patrick’s Day for
Patrick Sheehan or is the Central Bucks East senior, who captured the District
One Class AAA title last fall, just a good player?
Well, Sheehan, a Penn State recruit, proved once again he’s
a player as he fired a 1-over-par 73 to take top honors in the 16-to-18
division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop at Blue Heron Pines
Golf Club in Egg Harbor City, N.J. Sunday.
Sheehan got off to a good start, making birdies at three of
the first seven holes to get it to 3-under before cooling off a little to
finish at 1-over on the 6,265-yard, par-72 Blue Heron Pines layout. If nothing
else, the win gave Team Sheehan a little something else to celebrate on St.
Patty’s Day.
Calen Sanderson of Newtown was the runnerup with a solid
3-over 75. Sanderson had opened the spring portion of the wraparound 2018-’19
Junior Tour campaign with a victory Saturday at nearby Vineyard National.
It might have been a little warmer Sunday at Blue Heron
Pines than it was Saturday at Vineyard National, but the cold and windy
conditions that were around all weekend didn’t seem to bother Sanderson.
Penn Charter sophomore Patrick Isztwan, winner of the Bert
Linton Inter-Ac League individual crown as a freshman in 2017, took home the
third-place medal after prevailing in a scorecard playoff with John Bradbeer of
Bryn Mawr. Isztwan and Bradbeer each posted a 6-over 78.
James Dalzell of Linwood, N.J. finished fifth with an 80 and
Jack Farkas of Ardmore, Elijah Ruppert of Fleetwood and P.J. Schulte of Cape
May Court House, N.J. shared sixth place as each carded an 85.
Tyler Peters of Berlin N.J. took ninth place with an 87 and
Shane Lawler of Malvern rounded out the top 10 as he finished alone in 10th
place with an 88.
Jack Tarzy of Medford, N.J. punctuated his round in style by
making eagle at the 18th hole that gave him a 2-over 74 and the top
spot in the 13-to-15 division. Tarzy also had a pair of birdies in his round.
Joseph Giamanco of Middletown, N.J. was the runnerup with an 83.
West Chester’s Benjamin Saggers, winner of the Golf
Association of Philadelphia’s Boys’ Junior-Junior Championship last summer at
Merchantville Country Club, took home the third-place medal in a match of cards
with Winston Kelenc-Blank of Rumson, N.J. after each carded an 87.
Nathan Guertler of Merchantville, N.J. and Christian
Deussing of Solebury shared fifth place after each posted an 89. Brendan
Meagher of Swedesboro, N.J. finished seventh with a 90 ad Joseph Fargnoli of
Mickleton, N.J. was eighth with a 94.
Jake Hennelly of Linwood, N.J. took ninth with a 100,
Mitchell Loper of Port Republic, N.J. was 10th with a 101 and
Francis Wren of Egg Harbor Township, N.J. was 11th with a 103.
Kayla Gutierrez of Hammonton, N.J. birdied the third hole on
her way to an 83 that gave her the victory in the girls 16-to-18 division.
Gutierrez owns a Junior Tour victory in each of the last three years. Julia
Ergood of Mount Laurel, N.J. was the runnerup with a 106.
Gwendolyn Powell of Madison Township was the only entrant in
the 13-to-15 division and carded a 94. It still goes in the books as a Junior
Tour win and it was the first victory for Powell.
Hunter Probst of Bear Creek had seven pars and two bogeys in
topping the field of nine-holers with a 2-over 38. Probst had opened the spring
campaign by finishing tied for third Saturday at Vineyard National.
Gianna Papa of Foster, R.I. was the runnerup with a 4-over
40. Another member of Team Papa from Rhode Island, Vincenza Papa, took home the
third-place medal in a scorecard playoff with Matthew Sanderson of Newtown’s Team
Sanderson after each carded a 45.
Declan Conner of Swarthmore and Kasim Narinesingh-Smith of
Kennett Square shared fifth-place as each posted a 47. Paul Reilly of West
Creek, N.J., Mason Tucker of York and Tommy Marshall of Marlton, N.J. finished
tied for seventh, each ending up with a 48.
Reid Kross of York took 10th with a 54 and
Kiersten Bodge of West Chester was 11th with a 56.
