Fitzgerald fires 75 at Greate Bay to earn Junior Tour victory



   David Fitzgerald Jr. of Bryn Mawr had three birdies in posting the best score of the day, a 5-over-par 75, to take the top spot in the 13-to-15 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop Sunday at Greate Bay Country Club in Somers Point, N.J.
   Fitzgerald finished two shots ahead of Dylan Gooneratne of Plymouth Meeting, who was the runnerup with a 77 over the 6,417-yard, par-70 Greate Bay layout, highlighting a pretty good day for the Gooneratne gang.
   Jack Tarzy of Medford, N.J. finished third with a 78, Travis Dix of Howell, N.J. was fourth with a 79 and Jack Ross of Medford Lakes, N.J.  was fifth with an 81. Chase Stephano of Radnor and Stephen Cain of Yardley shared sixth place, each posting an 84.
   Darren Nolan of Glenside finished eighth with an 85, Kevin Motil of Sewell, N.J. was ninth with an 86 and Saul Kosloff of Merion Station and Henry Stone of Kennett Square rounded out the top 10 as they finished tied for 10th at 89.
   Nikita Romanov of Wilmington, Del. took top honors in the 16-to-18 division with a 6-over 76. Romanov, who has had a strong summer, had three birdies, including back-to-back birdies at six and seven. Andrew Benner of Hellertown was the runnerup, a shot behind Romanov at 77.
   Colin Walsh of Warminster finished third with a 79, Timothy Chaykosky Jr. of Ambler was fourth with an 80 and Michael Mitnick of Linwood, N.J. was fifth with an 81. Three players finished tied for third at 82, including Carl Ernst of Mickelton, N.J., Maxwell Rubin of Marlton, N.J. and Cole Shew of West Chester.
   Scott Warner of Shamong, N.J. finished ninth with an 84 and Will Horn of Narberth rounded out the top 10 with an 85.
   Christina Carroll of Bear, Del. found herself in the familiar spot atop the girls 16-to-18 division as she fired an 85 to claim another victory. Olivia Schwandt of Wilmington, Del. was the runnerup with a 91.
   Camille O’Halloran of Northfield, N.J. finished third with a 93 and Episcopal Academy’s Amanda Jones was fourth with a 97.
   Paige Cerminaro of Howell, N.J. topped a very competitive 13-to-15 field with an 81. Angelina Tolentino of Mount Laurel, N.J., a young player on the rise, was the runnerup with an 85.
   Another of the Jones girls of Episcopal and Newtown Square, Lauren, finished third with an 86. Kayla Gutierrez of Little Egg Harbor, N.J. took fourth with an 87. Sydney Yermish of Wynnewood, coming off a week during which she won once in the 13-to-15 division and twice among the nine-holers, finished fifth with a 91.
   Olivia Strigh of Hammonton, N.J. finished sixth with a 95 and Katrina Cabinian of Egg Harbor Township, N.J. was seventh with a 107.
   Nicholas Gross of Downingtown carded a 6-over 41 to top the field of nine-holers for his first win of the wraparound 2017-2018 season. Daniel Shin of Horsham was the runnerup with a 43.
   Fiona Gooneratne of the Plymouth Meeting Gooneratnes was the first of two Gooneratne girls in the top 10 as she finished third with a 45. J.P. Hogan of Havertown took fourth with a 48 and Luca Gherardi of Hammonton, N.J. was fifth with a 51. Another of the Gooneratne girls, Rhianna, shared sixth place with Tommy Marshall of Marlton, N.J. at 52.
   Harrison Card of Moorestown, N.J. finished eighth with a 59, Billy Rayer of Ardmore was ninth with a 60 and Joseph Mancini of Philadelphia rounded out the top 10 with a 62.
