A little catching-up
to do on the Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour. Let’s start with Monday …
Win Thomas of Unionville was off to a good start this spring
and he took that momentum right into the start of summer Monday, firing a
4-over-par 76 to capture the 13-to-15 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA
Junior Tour stop at Spring-Ford Country Club.
Thomas had two birdies on the front nine on his way to
victory over the 6,593-yard, par-72 Spring-Ford layout. Ryan McCabe of Media,
who has been playing some pretty golf himself lately, was the runnerup, just a
shot behind Thomas with a 5-over 77.
William Pabst of Roaring Brook Township and Dylan Gooneratne
of Plymouth Meeting shared third place, each carding a 78. Corey Haydu of
Doylestown finished fifth with a 79, Matthew Lafond of Blue Bell took sixth
with an 83 and Noah Sim of Ambler was seventh with an 84.
Five players rounded out the top 10 in a tie for eighth at
87, including Kyle Resuta of Phoenixville, Jack Davis of Newtown Square, James
Omalley of Harleysville, Liam Badger of Lancaster and Anthony Ciconte of
Wilmington, Del.
David Hurly, a junior at The Haverford School from Newtown
Square, had two birdies on the back nine at Spring-Ford to capture the 16-to-18
division with a 7-over 79. Carter Valerio of Rosemont and Drew Steinmetz of
Gilbertsville and the son of Spring-Ford head pro Rich Steinmetz, finished tied
for second, each posting an 82.
A couple of Royersford guys, Andrew Furhman and Axel
Kalbach, grabbed the next two spots, fourth and fifth, with respective scores
of 84 and 85. Dylan Topaz of Fort Washington and Vikram Pal of Chester Springs
shared sixth place at 87 and Neel Vidwans of West Chester and Andrew Benner of
Hellertown finished tied for eighth at 88.
Rounding out the top 10 were four players tied for 10th,
including Jeffery Bozzi of Newtown Square, Blaine Weaver of Myerstown, Mitchell
Schwartz of Phoenixville and Joshua Brauer of Royersford.
It took a match of scorecards to determine the winner of the
girls 16-to-18 division with the nod going to Olivia Gardenhour of Waynesboro
after she and Cristea Park of Blue Bell each carded an 88.
Olivia Wirsching of Blue Bell finished third with a 93, Maya
Trujillo of Philadelphia was fourth with a 96 and Liv Juliana of Malvern was
fifth with a 101.
Josie Genuardi of Kulpsville finished sixth with a 103,
Katie Pupillo of Skippack was seventh with a 105, Emma Lawrie of Eagleville was
eighth with a 113 and Ciara Morrissey of Huntingdon Valley was ninth with a
113.
Kathleen Mark of Media claimed her third Junior Tour win of
the season, taking top honors in the 13-to-15 division with a 95. Ava
O’Sullivan of Exton was the runnerup with a 98.
Sarah Scarpill of Warrington finished third with a 100, Leah
Walter of West Chester was fourth with a 104, Madilyn Siuta of Quakertown was
fifth with a 107 and Clare Gimpel of Lafayette Hill was sixth with a 111.
Nicholas Ciocca had five pars in a steady round of 4-over 40
that gave him the top spot among the nine-holers. Kristof Kopecky of Garnet
Valley and Benjamin Saggers of West Chester shared second place, two shots
behind Ciocca at 42.
Bret Bergey of Downingtown finished fourth with a 44 and the
trio of Kevin Lafond of Blue Bell, Henry Stone of Kennett Square and Megan
Adelman of Bryn Mawr finished in a tie for fifth at 45.
Daniel Shin of Horsham finished eighth with a 56 and Michael
Om of Blue Bell and Nicole Yun of Limerick rounded out the top 10 in a tie for
ninth, each posting a 49.
