Brianna Marmorstein, a junior at the Academy of Notre Dame,
tuned up for the upcoming Inter-Ac League campaign by capturing the girls
16-to-18 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop at Middletown
Country Club in Langhorne Saturday.
Marmorstein, who claimed the Junior Tour Championship event
last summer, carded an 89 over a par-70 Middletown layout that measures 5,489
yards for the girls for her first Junior Tour win of 2017. Marmorstein and her
Notre Dame teammates will be looking for a ninth straight Inter-Ac title this
spring. The Fighting Irish have won 52 straight Inter-Ac League dual matches.
Minjoo Kim of Lansdale was the runnerup to Marmorstein with
a 93. A couple of Downingtown entries, Grace Hickey and Lily Byrne placed third
and fourth with respective scores of 96 and 99. Emma Nemitz of Madison Township
took fifth with a 102, Sarah Fernandes of Downingtown was sixth with a 105,
Courtney Caiola of Schwenksville was seventh with a 109 and Olivia Wirsching of
Blue Bell was eighth with a 113.
There wasn’t much to separate Matthew Law of Yardley and
Casey Dao of Elkins Park in the boys 16-to-18 division as each posted a 6-over
76 over a Middletown layout that measured 6,141 yards for the guys. It went to
the second scorecard tiebreaker before the nod went to Law, who did have four
birdies in his round.
Nikita Romanov of Wilmington, Del. continued his strong
start to the season by taking third with a 77. Timothy Chaykosky Jr. of Ambler
took fourth with a 78 and Finnian McGarry of Haddonfield, N.J. and Simon
Asadoorian of Richboro shared fifth place, each carding a 79.
Ben Pochet, a junior at Spring-Ford and the reigning
District One Class AAA champion, and Michael Festa of Ambler finished in a tie
for seventh at 82. John Mallozzi of Horsham finished ninth with an 83 and Liam
Hart of Holland rounded out the top 10 with an 84.
It took a match of cards to determine the 13-to-15 division
winner as well as Nicholas Hano of Warrington and Jack Cooley of Chadds Ford
each carded an 82. Hano’s back-nine 39 gave him the edge. Hano had two birdies
in his round, one on each side at Middletown.
Dylan Gooneratne of Plymouth Meeting placed third with an
84. Corey Haydu of Doylestown, John Girone of Bear, Del. and Franklin Zhu of
Warren, N.J. shared fourth place, each player posting an 85. Mario Ventresca
III of Blue Bell and Alec Stern of Bryn Mawr finished tied for seventh at 87.
Matthew Lafond of Blue Bell took eighth with a 90 and Jack
Davis of Newtown Square and Jack Fialko of Berwyn rounded out the top 10, each
carding a 91 to finish tied for 10th.
Back on the girls side, Paige Cerminaro of Howell, N.J.
carded a 92 that included a par on the 12th hole to capture top
honors in the 13-to-15 division. Charlotte Scully of Chadds Ford was the
runnerup with a 93.
Eden Richmond of Princeton, N.J. took third with a 95,
Isabella McCloskey of Princeton Junction, N.J. was fourth with a 98 and Peyton
Karas of Wyomissing was fifth with a 99. Chaela Barnett of Churchville finished
sixth with a 105 and Amanda Schuebel of King of Prussia was seventh with a 114.
There was yet another scorecard playoff needed to break a tie at the top for the nine-holers between Benjamin Saggers of West Chester and Adrian
Jordan of Lawrenceville, N.J. after each came in at 43. The title went to Saggers.
Nicholas Gross of Downingtown and Matthew Normand of
Lumberton, N.J. finished in a tie for third at 44, Henry Stone of Kennett
Square was fifth with a 45, Audrey Schuebel of King of Prussia was sixth with a
50, Ava O’Sullivan of Exton was seventh with a 51 and Ajeet Bagga of Blue Bell
placed eighth with a 52.
Five players – Lola Barnett of Churchville, Kevin Lafond of
Blue Bell, Daniel Shin of Horsham, Megan Adelman of Bryn Mawr and Jolie
Pastarick of Rydal – finished in a tie for ninth as each landed on 53 for their
rounds.
