Furman, Florda the leaders in Puerto Rico, California

   Furman, ranked No. 8 by Golfstat, took a three-shot lead after two rounds of the Lady Puerto Rico Open at Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, adding a second-round 293 to its opening-round 290 for a 7-over 583 total.

   The Paladins were led by Haylee Horford, a sophomore from Leavittsburg, Ohio who maintained her hold on the top spot in the individual chase. Harford added a 3-under 69 over the 6,164-yard, par-72 Rio Mar layout to her opening-round 70 to give her a three-shot lead over three players at 5-under 139.

   Also for Furman, Taylor Totland, a senior from Tinton Falls, N.J., is tied for sixth at even-par 144 after a 73, Natalie Srinivasan, a freshman from Spartanburg, S.C., is tied for 32^nd at 150 after a 76 and Carly Burkhardt, a freshman from Greenville, S.C., is tied for 38^th at 151 after a 75.

   No. 15 Kent State had a second straight 293 and is in second place 10-over 516. No. 34 Texas Christian is another four shots back in third place at 15-over 590. A couple of top-10 teams, No. 9 Arkansas and No. 5 Georgia, are very much in the hunt. Arkansas is alone in fourth place at 15-over 591. Georgia is tied for fifth with No. 31 North Carolina State and No. 33 Michigan at 16-over 592.

Host Purdue, ranked 12^th, recovered from a tough start, improving 10 shots from 308 to 298, and is in 11^th place.

   Cavodonga Sanjuan, a sophomore from Spain, is leading the way for the Boilermakers as she made six birdies in a sparkling 2-under 70 that has her tied for 12^th at 2-over 146. Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri, a sophomore from Bali, is tied for 38^th at 151 after a 75 and reigning Big Ten champion August Kim, a senior from St. Augustine, Fla., and Micaela Farah, a freshman from Peru, are tied for 58^th at 155. Kim had a second-round 75 and Farah had a 78.

   Meanwhile, a couple thousand miles away in the Northrop Grumann Regional Challenge at the Palos Verdes Golf  Club in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., No. 6 Florida surged to a 2-shot lead over No. 2 Southern California with a sparkling a 9-under 275 for a 3-under 565 total.

   The amazing thing is the Gators have the individual leader, Kelly Grassel, a senior from Chesterton, Ind., but her score doesn’t count in their team total because she is competing as an individual. Grassel carded a second straight 3-under 68 over the 6,017-yard, par-71 Palos Verdes layout for a 5-under 137 total.

   The Gators got a 2-under 69 from Maria Torres, which puts her in a tie for third in the individual standings at 3-under 139. Also for Florida, Taylor Tomlinson, a junior from Gainesville, Fla, had a 69 and is tied for sixth at 2-under 140, Karoline Vickova, a senior from the Czech Republic, is tied for eighth at 2-under 140 after a 69 and Sam Wagner, a sophomore from Windermere, Fla., improved from an 81 to a 69 and is tied for 50^th at 8-over 153.

   USC had a 2-under 282 to get within two shots of the Gators at 1-under 567. No. 22 Duke is alone in third at 6-over 574 after a 287, No. 14 Arizona State is in fourth at 7-over 575 after a 282, No. 46 UNLV is fifth at 10-over 578 after a 286, No. 7 UCLA slipped back to 299 after an opening-round 289 and is sixth at 11-over 579 and No. 3 Alabama is seventh at 12-over 580 after an even-par 284.

   USC was led by Robynn Ree, a sophomore from Redondo Beach, Calif., who added a 70 to her opening-round 68 and trails Grassel by one at 4-under 138. Joining Florida’s Torres in a tie for third at 3-under 139 are Duke’s Leona Maguire, a junior from Ireland and the No. 1 player in the women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking who had a 71, and Alabama’s Lauren Stephenson, a sophomore from Lexington, S.C. who fired a 4-under 67.

   Host Ohio State is tied for 12^th at 22-over 590 after a second-round 292.
