Radnor's Calamaro gets share of third at Crossgates

   The Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour finally got a little break from Mother Nature this weekend and staged a pair of events, capped by Sunday’s stop at Crossgates Golf Club in Millersville.

   Jake Calamaro, who played a key role in helping Radnor win the PIAA Class AAA team crown during his freshman season last fall, fired a 5-over 77 over the 6,135-yard, par-72 Crossgates layout to finish tied for third in the boys 16-to-18 division.

   Thomas Bird of Lititz had four birdies while carding a 3-over 75 to earn his first Junior Tour victory. Luke Fayocavitz of Clarks Summit was a shot back in second with a 76. Mason Staub of Hanover matched Calamaro’s 77 to get a share of third place. Luke Huffnagle of Hanover and Samuel Beauragard of Lancaster finished tied for fifth with 78s.

   The best round of the day belonged to Carson Wacha of York, who made eagle on the 18^th hole to card a 2-over 74 and capture the 13-to-15 division. Alex Mulrooney of Wilmington, Del. finished second with a 77 and Morgan Lofland of Paoli was third with an 81. Three players – Richard Kline III of Kennett Square, Luke Watson of Royersford and Logan Hess of Willow Street – finished in a tie for fourth with 81s.

   Alexandra Lowder of Wrightsville captured top honors in the girls 16-to-18 division with a 91. Elise Glauser of Newark, Del. finished second with a 97.

   Alexandra Voight-Shelley of State College was the only competitor in the 13-to-15 division and thus captured top honors in the division, but she certainly answered the challenge of Crossgates, firing a 79, a pretty impressive score for a Class of 2020 player.

   Among the nine-holers, Henry Fish of Malvern finished first with a 40. Joshua Ryan of Norristown was the runnerup with a 42, Maxwell Wager of State College was third with a 43 and Benjamin Saggers of West Chester finished fourth with a 44.

   The Junior Tour opened the weekend with a stop Saturday at Five Ponds in Warminster and Liam Ward of Malvern earned his second straight victory, his 1-over 72 topping the field in the 16-to-18 division.

   Ward had two birdies and three bogeys over the 6,495-yard, par-71 Five Ponds layout.

   Benjamin Pochet, a standout at Spring-Ford, and Clement Shao of Warren, N.J. shared second place, each carding a 3-over 74. Three players – Patrick Sheehan of Doylestown, Ryan Kim of Yardley and Trey Kuntz of Lancaster – finished in a tie for fourth at 4-over 75.

   Liam Hart of Holland topped the 13-to-15 field with a 78, one better than Wilmington’s Mulrooney, the first of his two runnerup finishes for the weekend. Nikita Romanov of Wilmington, Del., and D.J. Scott of Kennett Square each shot 80 to finish tied for third.

   Cassidy Gavaghan of Ambler posted a 90 to edge Melissa Landis of Philadelphia by a shot and capture the girls 16-to-18 division.

   Elizabeth Beek of Blue Bell captured the 13-to-15 division with an 87, two shots ahead of runnerup Grace Enright of Doylestown. Cristea Park of Blue Bell and Sunshine Gu of Yardley each carded a 91 to finish tied for third.

   Among the nine-holers, John Olsen of Boalsburg fired a 39 to lead the way. Jack Davis of Newtown Square was second with a 44 followed by Darren Nolan of Glenside in third with a 45.
