Springfield's Miller has a big week in State College Series

   Not many Delco golfers made the trek to Central Pennsylvania for any or all of the Philadelphia PGA Junior Tour’s State College Series this week, but recent Springfield graduate Samantha Miller was easily the class of the 16-to-18 division.

   Miller opened the week with a 92 at Toftrees Golf Club Monday, came back with a solid 84 at Mountain View Country Club Tuesday and finished up with a 92 at Penn State’s Blue Course Wednesday for a 268 total that gave her the low score among the girls in her division that completed all three legs of the series.

   Rebecca Davis of Orefield was the runnerup in the series with rounds of 94 at Toftrees, 88 at Mountain View and 97 at Penn State’s Blue Course for a 279 total.

   Morgan Frazier of Mechanicsburg won the division at Toftrees with an 84 and at the Penn State Blue Course with an 84, but didn’t tee it up at Mountain View. Miller’s 84 at Mountain View gave her top honors there, her third career Junior Tour victory.

   Christopher Drysdale of Yorktown Heights, N.Y. was the top finisher in the series in the 16-to-18 boys division with rounds of 76 at Toftrees, 79 at Mountain View and 83 at Penn State’s Blue Course for a 238 total.

   Garrett Bastardi of Boalsburg took top honors at Toftrees with a 2-under 70 and again on his home track at Mountain View with a 1-over 72. Jake Gray of Glenmoore won the day at Penn State’s Blue Course with an 80 and he was the runnerup to Drysdale in the series at 241.

   Connor Boham of Collegeville topped the 13-to-15 division for the series with rounds of 76 at Toftrees, 77 at Mountain View and 83 at Penn State’s Blue Course for a 236 total.

   Boham’s 76 gave him top honors at Toftrees and his 77 also earned him the win at Mountain View in a match of cards with Sean Moran of Silver Spring, Md., who also had a 77.

   Paul Fedele of Easton won the day at Penn State’s Blue Course with a 79. That enabled him to finish second behind Boham in the series with a 245 total.

   Davis Flannery of Radnor made the run up to Penn State for the final day at the Blue Course. He was the only competitor among the nine-holers, but his 46 was his eighth straight round in the 40s.

Kim runnerup at Bensalem 

   Radnor sophomore Gabby Kim carded a 79 to finish second in the 13-to-15 division as the Philadelphia PGA’s Junior Tour made a ladies-only stop at Bensalem Township Country Club Friday.

Event sponsor BagBoy donated a push cart to the winner of each age group, which in both cases turned out to be girls named Park.

   Esther Park of Wilmington, Del., a familiar Junior Tour rival of Kim’s, fired a 76 to win the 13-to-15 division by three shots.

   Kim’s younger sister June, who has been competing among the nine-holers for the most part up to this point, took a jump up to the 13-to-15 division and finished seventh with a 102.

   Debbie Park of Ambler took top honors in the 16-to-18 division with a 75. She finished four shots ahead of Emily Gilbert of Gilbertsville.
