West Chester Rustin sophomore Ryan D’Ariano survived a playoff with Garnet Valley senior Jake Sokalsky to capture the title in the Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour Championship Monday at Coatesville Country Club.
D’Ariano had birdies at the first and 15th holes on his way to a 2-over-par 73 over the 6,117-yard, par-71 Coatesville layout. Sokalsky came out firing with three birdies in his first eight holes and added a fourth birdie to match D’Ariano’s 73.
D’Ariano defeated Sokalsky in a playoff for the overall crown among boys ages 13 to 18. The playoff win also gave him the top spot in the 16-to-18 division.

She was the runnerup in the Inter-Ac League Championship at French Creek Golf Club in May after leading the Churchwomen to their second straight perfect run through the league.

The Junior Tour Championship marked the end of the wraparound 2018-’19 season and the new 2019-‘20 season will start right up Wednesday.
The end of the season is a good opportunity to recognize The Graham Company, the Junior Tour’s title sponsor. The Graham Company is helping to put a golf club in the hands of youngsters, many of whom will still be playing the game decades from now. Much is made of the effort to grow the game and The Graham Company is walking the walk.
And kudos to the parents who do the driving to golf courses all over the Philadelphia suburbs in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. Maybe some of the older guys and girls can get themselves to some of the tournaments, but I’m guessing, for the most part, mom and dad are the ones battling the traffic to get their kids to the Junior Tour events.
