Homer brothers finish 1-2 in Junior Tour's Rehoboth Beach Junior Open

   The Homer brothers, Matthew and Jeffrey, again dominated the 13-to-15 division of a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop in Delaware as they finished 1-2, respectively, in the Rehoboth Beach Junior Open Monday at Rehoboth Beach, N.J.

   Matthew Homer won last week’s Junior Tour stop at Wild Quail Golf & Country Club in Dover in a scorecard playoff to break a tie for the top spot with Jeffrey Homer. This time, Matthew Homer’s 4-over-par 76 over the 6,358-yard, par-72 Rehoboth Beach layout was one shot better than Jeffrey Homer’s 5-over 77.

   Matthew Homer had two birdies on the front nine while Jeffrey Homer birdied the fifth hole to highlight his round. The Rehoboth Beach Junior Open, a Junior Golf Scoreboard event, was the first stop of a Junior Tour series in Delaware this week.

   Garnet Valley junior Jacob Sokalsky and Connor Strine of Lititz shared third place, each carding a 79. Anthony Ciconte of Wilmington, Del. finished fifth with an 80, a couple of West Chester entries, Benjamin Saggers and Graham White, finished sixth and seventh with respective scores of 86 and 88, and Jack Ryan of Landenberg was eighth with an 89.

   Benjamin Mayhew of Middletown, Del. finished ninth with a 91, David Pic of Wilmington was 10th with a 100 and Nathan Lutz, another Middletown entrant, was 11^th with a 102.

   Tyler Wassell of Lancaster put together a solid back nine that featured eight pars and a lone bogey on his way to a 4-over 76 that gave him the top spot in the 16-to-18 division. Nicholas Covey of Easton, Md. and Frankie Markiewicz of Middletown, Del. shared second place, each posting a 78.

   Nathan Potts of Wilmington finished fourth with an 80, Nathan Shaw of Hershey was fifth with an 81, Ryan Hannigan of Laurel, Del. was sixth with an 83 and William Haskell, another Middletown, Del. entrant, was seventh with an 86.

   Timothy Chaykosky Jr. of Ambler finished eighth with an 88, Tyler Mayhew another entry from Team Mayhew of Middletown, Del., was ninth with an 89 and Colby Hook of Selbyville, Del. rounded out the top 10 with a 91.

   Olivia Perry of Millsboro, Del. picked up birdies on the second and 17^th holes on her way to an 85 that gave her the top spot in the girls 16-to-18 division. Abigail Han of Hummelstown was the runnerup with an 89 that included a 1-under run over a five-hole stretch as she rattled off pars on the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh holes and birdied the eighth.

   Simone Harrison of Georgetown, Del. finished third with a 117.

   Paige Richter of Camp Hill had birdies on the 12^th and 14^th holes during a back-nine 40 that helped her capture a victory in the 13-to-15 division with a solid 85. Lily Yang of West Chester was the runnerup with an 87.

   Team Walter of West Chester, Leah Walter and Sophie Walter, finished third and fifth with respective totals of 92 and 109. In between them in fourth was Haverford High sophomore Riley Quartermain, who carded a 97.

   Matthew Homer wasn’t the only winner produced by Team Homer from Wilmington as the youngest  of the crew, Jack Homer, had pars on 10, 13 and 18 to top the field of nine-holers with a 44.

   Sawyer Brockstedt of Rehoboth Beach, Del., playing close to home, was the runnerup with a 46 that included back-to-back pars on 11 and 12. Brockstedt finished tied for fourth in the 10-to-11-year-old division in the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals at Augusta National Golf Club the Sunday before The Masters.

   Tyler Healy, another Rehoboth Beach entry, finished third with a 47, Joseph Ciconte, another member of Wilmington’s Team Ciconte, finished fourth with a 50, Griffin Gaughan of Avondale was fifth with a 52, Avery McCrery of Wilmington was sixth with a 53 and Libby Flaisher of Ardmore was seventh with a 60.
