Shaun Fedor of Lancaster had three birdies to open a Junior
Golf Scoreboard (JGS) Golf Pride State College Series weekend Saturday by
winning the 16-to-18 division at Penn State’s Blue Course.
Fedor matched par with a 72 over the 6,473-yard, par-72 Blue
Course layout to edge Troy Kelleher of Clarks Summit by a shot. Kelleher carded
a solid 1-over 73.
Ryan Kennedy of Wayne and Shane Angle of Mountain Top shared
third place, each posting a 4-over 76. Alex Pillar of Hawley was alone in fifth
with a 77, Lake Lehman sophomore Bobby Lugiano, a PIAA Class AA East Regional
qualifier last fall, was sixth with a 78, and Nathan Pierce of Limerick was
seventh with an 80.
Rounding out the top 10 were three players – Benjamin Barnett
of Wellsboro, Stephane de Brechard of Brooklyn, N.Y., ad Logan Snyder of Dover
– tied for eighth, each carding an 81.
Meanwhile, Jolo Timothy Magcalayo of the Philippines
continued to take the Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour by storm, backing up
his runaway victory in last weekend’s JGS event at Back Creek Golf Club with
another impressive showing in winning the 13-to-15 division.
Magcalayo had six birdies in a 4-under 68 for a seven-shot
victory over Spring-Ford freshman Luke Watson, who posted a solid 3-over 75. Three
players – Adrian Jordan of Lawrenceville, N.J., Ray Anderson of Chadds Ford and
James Ulsh of Carlisle – shared third place, four shots behind Watson at 79.
Garnet Valley sophomore Jacob Sokalsky finished sixth with an
81, Keller Mulhern of Exton was seventh with an 83 and Owen Fahs of Nazareth
was eighth with an 86. Rounding out the top 10 were Trevor Snyder of Dover and
Kyle Resuta of Phoenixville, both of whom finished tied for ninth at 87.
Christina Carroll of Bear, Del. went even-par 36 on the
front nine on her way to a 5-over 77 that gave her the victory in the girls
16-to-18 division by three shots over the other member of Team Magcalayo, Jona
Angela, who carded a solid 80.
Alexandra Voight-Shelley of State College finished third
with an 81, Mount St. Joseph sophomore Olivia Wirsching, a member of the
Mount’s District One Class AAA championship team last fall, was fourth with an
82, Jessica McClellan of Freeland was fifth with an 86 and Morgan Sohosky of
Bloomsburg was sixth with an 89.
McKylie Boreman of New Cumberland, Marin Dremock of Drums
and Kylee Richards of State College shared seventh place, each carding a 96.
Abigail Han of Hummelstown finished 10th with a 99 and Sara Hall of
Mountain Top took 11th with a 109.
Ava O’Sullivan of Exton carded a solid 82 in a round that
featured nine pars to take top honors in the 13-to-15 division. Gwendolyn
Powell of Madison Township was the runnerup with a 104 and Bethany Julias of
Schwenksville took third with a 128.
Nicholas Gross birdied the par-3 fourth hole on his way to a
1-over 37 that topped the field of nine-holers in a tight battle. Three other
players – John Keba of Emmaus, Michael Maslanka of Taylor and Hunter Probst of
Bear Creek – were just a shot behind Gross as they shared second place, each
posting a solid 2-over 38.
Isaak Bloom of Bellefonte was just one shot out of that
logjam for second as he posted a 3-over 39 to finish alone in fifth. Tyler
Fortney of Fayetteville was alone in sixth with a 42.
Evan Gross of Downingtown’s Team Gross finished seventh with
a 47, Mason Tucker of York was eighth with a 48 and Elora Walker of
Philadelphia was ninth with a 55.
It was the first time this season for competition in the
women’s 17-to-24 division and Lauren Molin of Doylestown was the lone entry. A
birdie on the par-4 16th helped Molin post an 89.
The Graham Company is the title sponsor of the Philadelphia
Section PGA Junior Tour. I should be able to get back with a roundup of Day 2 Sunday at Penn State, complete with the results of the weekend series, by the
end of the day Sunday.
