D'Ariano wins scorecard playoff with Ryden for Junior Tour win at Deerfield

   Ryan D’Ariano of West Chester had the edge on Alec Ryden of Moorestown, N.J. in a match of scorecards as D’Ariano captured the 16-to-18 division Sunday in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop at Deerfield in the middle of Delaware’s White Clay Creek State Park.

   D’Ariano and Ryden each posted a 5-over-par 75 over the challenging 6,307-yard, par-70 Deerfield layout. D’Ariano birdied the 16^th hole on his way to a 37 on the back nine that gave him the edge in the scorecard playoff. Ryden had two birdies in his round.

   A couple of Wilmington, Del. players finished third and fourth as Owen Schlegel and Nathan Potts had respective scores of 80 and 83. Jackson Paradee of Dover, Del. finished fifth with an 84, Jerry Haftman of Springfield was sixth with an 85, Alex Mayernik of Columbus, N.J was seventh with an 87 and Will Hage of Phoenixville was eighth with an 88.

   Jack Herbine of Doylestown took ninth with a 90, Matt Walsh of Chester Springs was 10^th with a 93 and T.J. Prushinski of Bear, Del. was 11^th with a 94.

   James Dalzell didn’t have far to go when the Linwood, N.J. resident captured a Junior Tour victory at Linwood Country Club last weekend, but Dalzell took his game on the road Sunday and won the 13-to-15 division at Deerfield with a 79 that included three birdies.

   Darren Nolan of Glenside birdied the 17^th hole on his way to an 83 that gave him runnerup honors. Keller Mulhern of Exton took third with an 88.

   Henry Stone of Kennett Square and Stephen Cain of Yardley shared fourth place, each carding an 89, Kevin Deng of Devon was sixth with a 90 and Chase Stephano of Radnor and Jack Tarzy of Medford, N.J. finished tied for seventh at 81.

   Jackson Fields of Glen Mills finished ninth with a 92 and Grady Benfer of West Chester rounded out the top 10 with a 97.

   Even though Kayla Gutierrez of Little Egg Harbor, N.J. was unopposed in the girls 13-to-15 division, her 86 was the best round posted among any of the girls at Deerfield.

   Olivia Perry of Millsboro, Del. took top honors in the 16-to-18 division with an 88. Perry finished her round with a flourish, making birdie on the 18^th. Brianna Marmorstein, a senior on perennial Inter-Ac League power Notre Dame’s roster from Havertown, was the runnerup with a 93.

   Olivia Schwandt of Wilmington, Del. finished third with a 94 and Elaine Loose of Malvern was fourth with a 116.

   No matter who won the scorecard playoff among the nine-holers, the gold and silver medals were headed for the Gooneratne household in Plymouth Meeting. Little sister Rhianna Gooneratne took the top prize after she and Fiona each carded a 12-over 47.

   Ethan Martin of North Wales and Stefania Fedun of Glenmoore shared third place, each posting a 50. Michael Dignazio of Wilmington, Del. finished fifth with a 52, Griffin Gaughan of Avondale was sixth with a 54 and Joseph Mancini of  Philadelphia was seventh with a 65.
