Peters opens Mizuno Rehobth Beach Series wtih Junior Tour win

   John Peters of Carlisle rattled off five birdies on his way to a 2-over-par 74 to win the 13-to-15 division in the Philadelphia Section PGA’s Rehoboth Junior Open Monday at Rehoboth Beach Country Club.

   It was the beginning of the Junior Tour’s annual trek through Delaware known as the Junior Golf Scoreboard Mizuno Rehoboth Beach Series. The series continues Tuesday at Kings Creek Country Club in Rehoboth Beach and concludes with a stop Wednesday at Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club in Ocean View, Del. Series champions will be crowned in each age group, but there are also winners in each age group at each stop.

   Peters finished three shots clear of runnerup Roy Anderson of Chadds Ford, who posted a 5-over 77 over the 6,358-yard, par-72 Rehoboth Beach layout.

   Chase Cohen of Villanova finished third with an 81, Dimitri Collins of King of Prussia took fourth with an 85 and Evan Barbin of Elkton, Md. and Tyler Kipp of Reading shared fifth place, each carding an 86.

   James Ulsh of Carlisle and Liam Badger of Lancaster finished tied for seventh at 87, Nathan Lutz of Middletown, Del. was ninth with a 91 and Declan Rymer of Downingtown rounded out the top 10 with a 93.

   Evan Brown, coming off a scholastic career at Kennett during which he was consistently among the top players in District One, took top honors in the 16-to-18 division as he had two birdies on his way to a 4-over 76. Frankie Markiewicz of Middletown, Del. was the runnerup with a 78.

   Devin Sanders of Camden, Del. and Brady St. Pierre of York shared third place, each posting an 80 and Matthew Bricker of York and Nathan Pierce of Limerick finished tied for fifth at 81.

   Nathan Potts of Wilmington, Del. finished seventh with an 82, Nicholas Covey of Easton, Md. was eighth at 83 and Dylan Sterlacci of Downingtown, Vincent Alois of Wyoming, Del. and Blaine Weaver of Myerstown rounded out the top 10 as they finished tied for ninth at 84.

   Christina Carroll of Bear, Del. had a pair of birdies on her way to a 79 that gave her top honors in the girls 16-to-18 division. Savanna Haas of Pottstown was the runnerup with an 89.

   Lily Byrne of Downingtown finished third with a 97, Josie Genuardi of Kulpsville and Briana Hocker of Warminster shared fourth place at 100 and Lauren Borda of Yardley was sixth with a 115.

   Pretty good day for the Lydic girls of Ocean View, Del. Hannah Lydic, class of 2022, won the 13-to-15 division with a 78 that was highlighted by a pair of birdies. Sarah Lydic, class of 2024, finished third with a 90.

   Riley Quartermain of Bryn Mawr was the runnerup in between the Lydics with a solid 87. Paige Richter of Camp Hill finished fourth with a 100 and Amanda Schuebel of King of Prussia was fifth with a 105.

   Jeffrey Homer of Wilmington, Del. nearly matched the scorecard in besting the field of nine-holers with a 2-over 38. Homer parred eight of the nine holes he played. Benjamin Saggers of West Chester was the runnerup with a 4-over 40.

   Jeffrey was not the only Homer in the top 10 among the nine-holers. Matthew Homer finished fourth with a 43 and Jason (Jack) Homer was sixth with a 47.

   Nicholas Joyce of Quakertown finished third with a 42,  Sawyer Brockstedt of Rehoboth Beach was fifth with a 45, Cole Weaver of Myerstown was seventh with a 52, Griffin Gaughan of Avondale was eighth with a 53, Katelyn Baik of Yardley was ninth with a 55 and Audrey Schuebel of King of Prussia rounded out the top 10 with a 59.
