Engle claims Junior Tour win with 73 at Hanover

   Garrett Engle of Harrisburg fired a solid 2-over-par 73 to capture the 16-to-18 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop at Hanover Country Club in Abbottstown Wednesday.

   As has been the case throughout a largely cold and wet spring, the juniors battled chilly temperatures and occasional rain, but Engle didn’t let it bother him as he made four birdies, two on each nine over the 6,474-yard, par-71 Hanover layout. He finished the front nine at even-par 36.

   Alex Mulrooney of Wilmington, Del. finished four shots behind Engle in second with a 77. Logan Snyder of Dover was third with a 78, Brady St. Pierre of York placed fourth with an 81 and Michael Robinson of Gettysburg took fifth with an 82.

   Caleb Clements of Lancaster finished sixth with an 86, Christopher Waldmann of Malvern was seventh with an 89, Russell McPaul of York was eighth with a 90, Eric Little of Littlestown was ninth with a 96 and Matthew Kunkle of Carlisle rounded out the top 10 with a 97.

   Win Thomas of Coatesville continued his solid play this spring as he won the 13-to-15 division in a match of cards with Karl Frisk of Spring Grove after each carded a 5-over 76. They both shot 37 on the back nine, so Thomas’ 25 shots over the final six holes, the second tiebreaker, proved to be the difference.

   Alec Stern of Bryn Mawr finished third with a 78, Tyler Zimmer of Philadelphia took fourth with an 81 and the trio of James Ulsh of Carlisle, John Wang of Wilmington, Del., and Jack Penwell of Enola shared fifth place at 83.

   Bobby Nicholson of York finished eighth with an 84, Jack Davis of Newtown Square was ninth with an 86 and Jun Lee of York rounded out the top 10 with an 87.

   Julieanne Lee, who finished third in the PIAA Class AAA Championship as a junior at Central York last fall, won the girls 16-to-18 division with an 84, her second Junior Tour win of the year. Lee teed it up with the big girls Monday in a U.S. Women’s Open sectional qualifier held at Hidden Creek Golf Club in Egg Harbor Township, N.J. Lee struggled at Hidden Creek, but gained valuable experience playing against top competition on a course set up for championship conditions.

   Cailey Roman of York was the runnerup with an 88 and Anne Shand of Lancaster took third with a 103.

   McKylie Boreman of New Cumberland captured the 13-to-15 division with a 95. Boreman played the par-3s well, going 2-over on them while claiming her first Junior Tour win of the season. Lillian McNally of York was the runnerup with a 97 and Paige Richter of Camp Hill was third with a 100.

   Tyler Fortney of Fayetteville earned his first Junior Tour win of the season, topping the field of nine-holers with a 9-over 45. Griffin Walizer of McElhattan was a shot behind Fortney in second with a 46.

   Heather Sanbower of Chambersburg finished third with a 53 and Jack Seitchik of Dillsburg was fourth with a 67.
