Alec Stern of Bryn Mawr was the only player in the field who
was able to break 80 in wind and occasional downpours as he captured top honors
in the 13-to-15 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop Sunday
at Buena Vista Country Club in Buena, N.J.
Stern started strong with an even-par 36 on the front nine
at the 6,443-yard, par-72 Buena Vista layout on his way to a 6-over-par 78.
Stephen Lorenzo of Lower Gwynedd was the runnerup with an 81.
Joseph Morganti of Havertown finished third with an 82.
Stephen Cain of Yardley, Jack Ross of Medford Lakes, N.J. and Luke Kelly of
Wayne shared fourth place, each carding an 84, and Tyler Zimmer of Bryn Mawr,
Peter Banfe of Moorestown, N.J. and Zachary Sandler of Gladwyne finished tied
for seventh at 85.
Carl Ernst of Mickleton, N.J. and Kevin Motil of Sewell,
N.J. rounded out the top 10 as they finished tied for 10th at 86.
In the 16-to-18 division, Colin Walsh of Warminster had two
birdies on his way to an 80 that gave him his first Junior Tour victory. Kyle
Hayes of Oceanport, N.J. claimed runnerup honors with an 83.
Corbin Babyak of Tafton and Christopher Colman of Wenonah,
N.J. shared third place, each carding an 85. Simon Asadoorian of Richboro
finished fifth with an 86, Shaun Glenn of Philadelphia was sixth with an 89 and
Radnor High sophomore Blake Stephano was seventh with a 90.
Andrew Koh of Dresher finished eighth with a 91 and Troy
Milne of Yardley was ninth with a 105.
In the girls 16-to-18 division, Olivia Patrow birdied the
par-3 12th hole on her way to a 90 as she took top honors. The win makes Patrow 2-for-2 on the Junior
Tour this season. Lindsey Fogarasi of Collegeville was the runnerup with a 100
and Helen Shaw of Harleysville took third with a 164.
Kayla Gutierrez of Little Egg Harbor, N.J. birdied the
seventh and 12 holes while firing an 81 that gave her the top spot in the
13-to-15 division for her first Junior Tour victory. Victoria Kim of West
Chester was the runnerup with an 85.
Gillyoung Koh of Broomall finished third with a 90, the Lus
of Edison, N.J., Claire and Grace, finished fourth and fifth with respective
scores of 92 and 98, and Olivia Strigh of Hammonton, N.J. was sixth with a 100.
According to the highlights the Junior Tour sends out on
Twitter, Grace Lu finished up with a hole-in-one on 17 and an eagle on 18,
Claire Lu made an eagle on 18 and Strigh also had a hole-in-one on 17. So that’s
some serious excitement coming out of the 13-to-15 division.
Among the nine-holers, Nicholas Gross of Downingtown
completed a weekend sweep as he added a victory at Buena Vista to his
first-place finish Saturday at Chesapeake Bay Golf Club. Gross carded a 5-over 41
Sunday as he make it three straight
winning starts on the Junior Tour. Benjamin Saggers of West Chester was just a
shot back in second with a 42.
Sydney Yermish of Wynnewood finished third with a 45,
Angelina Tolentino of Mount Laurel, N.J. was fourth with a 47, Griffin Walizer
of McElhattan was fifth with as 51 and Joseph Fargnoli of Laurel Springs, N.J.
was sixth with a 53.
Luca Gherardi of Hammonton, N.J. finished seventh with a 54
and Kiera Bartholomew of Westampton, N.J. was eighth with a 58.
