Pochet's eagle helps him soar to Junior Tour win at Five Ponds

   Ben Pochet, a junior at Spring-Ford and the reigning District One Class AAA champion, holed a long eagle putt on the par-5 12^th hole on his way to a victory in the 16-to-18 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop Saturday at Five Ponds Golf Course in Warminster.

   Pochet also had a birdie on his card as he posted a 2-over 73 over the 6,422-yard, par-71 Five Ponds layout to finish a shot ahead of his PAC-10 rival, Norristown sophomore Caleb Ryan, who carded a 3-over 74. Pochet and Ryan both earned trips to the PIAA Tournament at the Heritage Hills Golf Resort last fall.

   Hayden Rousselle and Patrick Sheehan, both of Doylestown, and Simon Asadoorian of Richboro finished in a tie for third, each carding a 79. Drew Steinmetz of Gilbertsville finished alone in sixth with an 81.

   John Mallozzi of Horsham and Pochet’s Spring-Ford teammate, Jonathan Lumley, finished tied for seventh at 82. Jackson Paradee of Dover, Del. and Maxwell Rubin of Marlton, N.J. rounded out the top 10 as they tied for ninth at 83.

   Calen Sanderson of Skillman, N.J. avoided any big numbers on his card to capture the 13-to-15 division with a 4-over 75. Joshua Ryan, the younger of Norristown’s Ryan brothers who was coming off a Junior Tour win Friday at Heritage Hills, was the runnerup with a 77.

   Dylan Gooneratne of Plymouth Meeting finished third with a 79 and Alec Stern of Bryn Mawr took fourth with an 81. Jake Maddaloni of Newtown Square and John Olsen of Boalsburg shared fifth place, each carding an 82.

   Noah Sim of Ambler finished seventh with an 85, Nicholas Hano of Warrington was eighth with an 87, Peter Banfe of Moorestown, N.J. was ninth with an 88 and Corey Haydu of Doylestown rounded out the top 10 with an 89.

   Minjoo Kim of Lansdale birdied the par-5 fifth hole on her way to an 88 that gave her a victory in the girls 16-to-18 age group. Sofia Amoroso of West Chester was the runnerup with a 95.

   Josie Genuardi of Kulpsville and Savanna Haas of Pottstown shared third place, each carding a 96. Sarah Fernandes of Downingtown took fifth with a 110, Mackenzie Cassidy of Hatboro was sixth with a 112 and Helen Shaw of Harleysville was seventh with a 117.

   Victoria Kim of West Chester made it 2-for-2 in her two Junior Tour starts in 2017 as she claimed top honors in the 13-to-15 division with an 86. Isabella McCloskey of Princeton Junction, N.J. was the runnerup with an 87.

   Amanda Schuebel of King of Prussia finished third with a 98, Chaela Barnett of Churchville was fourth with a 99, Grace Babinchak of Hazleton and Riley Quartermain of Bryn Mawr shared fifth place at 104 and Kate Green of Bryn Mawr was seventh with a 120.

   The nine-holers division was hotly contested with Maxwell Wager of State College prevailing in a match of cards with Adrian Jordan of Lawrenceville, N.J. and Ajeet Bagga of Blue Bell after all three came in at 5-over 41. Wager’s total on the last six holes proved to be the difference.

   Henry Stone of Kennett Square was only a shot away from making it a four-way logjam at the top as he finished fourth with a 42.  Conner Gherghel of Orwigsburg was another shot back in fifth with a 43.

   Megan Adelman of Bryn Mawr finished sixth with a 46 and Hunter Probst of Bear Creek was seventh with a 48. Daniel Shin of Horsham and Sydney Yermish of Wynnewood finished tied for eighth, each posting a 49, and Brendan Reilly of Warrington and Ava O’Sullivan of Exton rounded out the top 10, tying for 10^th at 50.
