Morganti overcomes weather for Junior Tour win at Twisted Dunes

   Joseph Morganti of Havertown didn’t seem to mind the miserable conditions that faced him in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop Sunday at Twisted Dunes Golf Club in Egg Harbor Township, N.J.

   The Junior Tour had temperatures hovering around 70 for Saturday’s stop at Frog Hollow Golf Club in Delaware, but the youngsters who teed it up at Twisted Dunes faced temperatures in the low 40s and winds coming in off the ocean at 20 mph. It was time to break out the cold-weather gear again.

   Morganti promptly went out and matched par on the front nine of the 6,421-yard, par-72 Twisted Dunes layout with a 36. He struggled a little coming home by comparison, but his 43 enabled him to card a 7-over 79 and win the title in the 13-to-15 age group.

   Jack Cooley of Chadds Ford and Dylan Gooneratne of Plymouth Meeting shared second place, each carding an 83 to finish four shots behind Morganti. Jacob Sokalsky of Garnet Valley and Jackson Putney of Egg Harbor Township finished in a tie for fourth at 86.

   Peter Banfe of Moorestown, N.J. finished sixth with a 93, Brady Ross of Feasterville took seventh with a 99, Saul Kosloff of Merion Station was eighth with a 106 and Benjamin Sinrod of Villanova was ninth with a 108.

   Casey Carson of Wenonah, N.J. matched Morganti’s 7-over 79 to capture top honors in the 16-to-18 division. Carson had a birdie on the 12^th hole on the way to his first Junior Tour victory.

Robert Beck of Allentown was the runnerup with an 80. Andrew Moffat of Hatboro was another shot back in third with an 81.

   Alec Ryden of Moorestown, N.J., Harrison Graham of Wenonah, N.J. and Simon Asadoorian of Richboro finished in a tie for fourth, each carding an 83.

   Three more players – Christopher D’Alessandro of Waretown, N.J., William Tone of Moorestown, N.J. and Matthew Pulcini of Center Valley – shared seventh place at 84. Drew Warner of Bethlehem rounded out the top 10 with an 86 that left him alone in 10^th.

   Peyton Kraras of Wyomissing was playing in her first Junior Tour event and posted a 106 in the tough conditions to win the title in 13-to-15 division. Niosha Parvisi of Gladwyne was the runnerup with a 110 and Katrina Cabinian of Egg Harbor Township was another shot back in third with a 111.

   Among the nine-holers, it was a big day for the girls as only three players broke 50 and they were all young ladies.

   Angelina Tolentino of Mount Laurel, N.J. had four pars in an 8-over 44 that resulted in her first Junior Tour victory. Sydney Yermish of Wynnewood was the runnerup with a 47 and Megan Adelman of Bryn Mawr took third with a 49.

   Hunter Probst of Bear Creek finished fourth with a 50, Luca Gherardi of Hammonton, N.J. took fifth with a 53, Joseph Fargnoli of Laurel Springs, N.J. was sixth with a 57 and Andrew Donohue of Collegeville was seventh with a 68.
