Ryan gets a good look at Heritage Hills in Junior Tour victory

   Norristown sophomore Caleb Ryan will be teeing it up Monday at Golden Oaks Golf Club with one goal in mind: Qualify for the PIAA Class AAA Tournament a week later at the Heritage Hills Golf Resort in Springettsbury Township near York.

   Should Ryan make it to Heritage Hills, he’ll have the advantage of having played a good round on the tricky layout that has hosted the state tournament since 2002. He did that Saturday as the Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour made a stop at Heritage Hills and Ryan captured top honors in the 16-to-18 age group with an even-par 71 over the 6,330-yard, par-71 layout.

   Ryan had an eagle and three birdies in his round. He was coming off a gritty even-par 72 while playing in the next-to-last group in the second round of the District One Tournament at Turtle Creek Golf Course Tuesday. Combined with his opening-round 74, it gave Ryan a 2-over 146 total and left him in a tie for fourth, five shots back of district champion Ben Pochet of Spring-Ford.

   Kohltin Bartlow of Montgomery was the runnerup with a 3-over 74 and Brady St. Pierre of York was a shot back of Bartlow in third with a 75. Malvern Prep sophomore Andrew Curran, coming off an 82 at Aronimink Golf Club in the Bert Linton Invitational, was alone in fourth with a 5-over 76.

   Jacob Macinanti of Lancaster finished fifth with a 77, Logan Hess of Willow Street was sixth with a 78 and Tre Fleck of Lewistown took seventh with a 79. Nikita Romanov of Wilmington, Del. and Michael Robinson of Gettysburg shared eighth place, each carding an 80. Trent Golden of Enola and Timothy Chaykosky Jr. of Ambler rounded out the top 10, finishing in a tie for 10^th at 84.

   Davis Flannery, a freshman on Radnor’s Central League championship team, posted a 2-over 73 to take top honors in the 13-to-15 division. Flannery had an eagle and a birdie in his round. Calen Sanderson of Skillman, N.J. was the runnerup with a 4-over 75.

   Jack Cooley of Chadds Ford and Logan Paczewski of Dallas shared third place, each carding a 76. Garrett Engle of Harrisburg took fifth with a 78, Joshua Ryan of Norristown was sixth with an 81, Derek McGlaughlin of Elizabethtown was seventh with an 82, Graham Calhoun of Lititz was eighth with an 83, John Wang of Wilmington, Del. was ninth with an 85 and Nicholas Fioravante of Mohnton rounded out the top 10, placing 10^th with a 91.

   With an afternoon shotgun start, the two girls divisions ran out of daylight and only completed 17 holes.

   Grace Stillman of Lancaster won the 16-to-18 division with a 9-over 76. Samantha Fritzinger of Allentown was two shots back in second with a 78.

   Casey Oppenheimer of Conshohocken took third with an 84, Ella Moores of Abbottstown was fourth with an 89, Alexandra Lowder of Wrightsville was fifth with a 94 and Anne Shand of Lancaster was sixth with a 107.

   Cecelia Priolo of Ambler topped the 13-to-15 division with a 90 with Cailey Roman of York finishing just two shots back of Priolo in second with a 92.

   Sawyer Marten of East Petersburg topped the field of nine-holers with a 44. Marten opened his round with four straight pars. Sydney Yermish of Wynnewood was the runnerup with a 49 and Ava O’Sullivan took third with a 54.
