Lewis takes one-shot lead into final round of Assistant PGA Professional Championship



   Danny Lewis of Elks Run Golf Club in Ohio carded a 2-under 70 at PGA Golf Club’s Wanamaker course Saturday to grab the lead heading into the final round of the National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
   Lewis, who had moved into contention with a 4-under 68 in Friday’s second round, is at 7-under 209. Jack Lempke of Bent Tree Country Club in Texas, who had held the 36-hole lead after a 5-under 67 in the second round, had a 1-over 73 Saturday and trails Lewis by a shot at 6-under 210.
   Defending champion Andy Mickelson of Mistwood Golf Club in Illinois fired a 4-under 68 and is tied for third at 5-under 211, two back of Lewis. He was joined at that figure by Todd Bailey of Rock Creek Golf Club in Alabama, who had his second straight 70.
   Ben Polland of Deepdale Golf Club in New York matched par with a 72 and is alone in fifth place at 4-under 212. Shawn Warren of Falmouth Country Club in Maine had his third straight 71 and is alone in sixth place at 3-under 213.
   Gene Fieger, who dominated the Philadelphia Section PGA as an assistant pro at Overbrook Golf Club in the 1990s, is tied for 14th at 1-over 217. Fieger, who plays out of The Club Pelican Bay in Naples, Fla., had a 75 Saturday.
   Heading the Philadelphia Section contingent, Sunnybrook Golf Club’s Corey McAlarney is tied for 31st at 5-over 221. Winner of the recent Philadelphia Section PGA Match Play Championship, McAlarney posted a 2-over 74 Saturday.
   Michael Little of Lookaway Golf Club is tied for 53rd at 8-over 224 after carding a 75.
