Berman, Georgetown in second place at Georgetown Intercollegiate

   Georgetown junior Cole Berman, a two-time Inter-Ac League champion at The Haverford School, helped the Hoyas to second place after the first two rounds of the Georgetown Intercollegiate Monday at The Members Club at Four Streams in Beallsville, Md.

   Berman opened with a 3-under 68 over the 7,129-yard, par-71 Four Streams layout and added an afternoon 73 and is tied for 11^th at 1-under 141.

   The host Hoyas added a 7-under 277 to their opening-round 287 for a 4-under 564 total. They trail Notre Dame, which is at 8-under 560 after rounds of even-par 284 and 8-under 276, by four shots. The tournament concludes with 18 holes Tuesday.

   Eastern Michigan (284-283) sits in third at 1-under 567 and DePaul (285-292) and Princeton (289-288) are tied for fourth at 9-over 577. Temple, with rounds of 284 and 297, is in eighth place at 13-over 581 and Saint Joseph’s, with rounds of 320 and 301, is last in the field of 12 at 621.

   Notre Dame was led by Ben Albin, a sophomore from Sante Fe, N.M., who matched the competitive course record at Four Streams in the morning round with a 66 and came back with a 68 in the afternoon to take the lead in the individual chase at 8-under 134.

   Rhode Island’s Billy Welthouse, a senior from Longmeadow, Mass., is two shots back of Albin in second at 6-under 136. He had rounds of 67 and 69.

   Georgetown, the reigning Big East champion, was led by Sam Madsen, a junior from Madison, Wis. who is tied for third at 4-under 138. Madsen surged to a 4-under 67 in the afternoon after opening with an even-par 71. He was joined at 138 by Princeton’s Alex Dombrowski, a senior from Gaylord, Mich. who had rounds of 67 and 71.

   Temple was led by Trey Wren, a sophomore from Suffolk, Va. who is tied for fifth at 3-under 139. Wren matched Albin and the competitive course record with an opening-round 66, but fell back in the afternoon with a 2-over 73.

   Wren was joined at 3-under by a couple of Eastern Michigan players, Kyle Rodes (70-69), a senior from Plymouth, Mich., and Nic Ross (69-70), a junior from Canada.

   Notre Dame had a second player in the top 10 in Blake Barnes, a senior from Villa Park, Calif. who is tied for eighth at 2-under 140 after rounds of 71 and 69. He was joined at that figure by Princeton’s Eric Mitchell (69-71), a junior from Winston-Salem, N.C., and DePaul’s Jonathan Hewett (68-72), a senior from England.

   Berman’s old Inter-Ac rival, former Malvern Prep standout Michael Davis, is tied for 27^th for Princeton with rounds of 75 and 71 for a 146 total. Berman also defeated Davis for the 2015 BMW Philadelphia Amateur title at Llanerch Country Club.

   Temple junior Mark Farley, a former Calvary Christian standout, is tied for 22^nd at 3-over 145 after rounds of 72 and 73.

   Temple sophomore Sam Soeth, a former Marple Newtown standout, is tied for 30^th at 5-over 147 after rounds of 71 and 76. Soeth is off to a solid start this fall for Brian Quinn’s Owls. Temple redshirt freshman Erik Reisner, a two-time Central League champion at Harriton, is tied for 41^st at 150 after a pair of 75s.

   St. Joe’s was led by Michael O’Brien, a freshman from West Chester, Ohio who joined Reisner at 150 with rounds of 78 and 72.
