DiLisio helps Notre Dame earn share of sixth at The Schooner Fall Classic

   Notre Dame sophomore Isabella DiLisio, the 2013 PIAA Class AAA champion at Mount St. Joseph, helped the Fighting Irish open their season with a tie for sixth at The Schooner Fall Classic, hosted by Oklahoma at the Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Okla.

   DiLisio had rounds of 71, 74 and 73 over the 5,939-yard, par-71 Belmar Golf Club layout to finish in a tie for 26^th at 5-over 218. Notre Dame, ranked 40^th in the latest Golfstat rankings, opened with a solid 1-under 283 and added rounds of 298 and 290 for an 871 total.

   Florida State’s Morgane Metraux, a junior from Switzerland, captured the individual title with rounds of 68, 67 and 66 for a 12-under 201 title. She led the 19^th-ranked Seminoles to a runaway victory in the team standings with a 23-under 829 total.

   The event was originally scheduled to run from Saturday to Monday, but the threat of bad weather prompted a decision to make it two days with a double round Saturday. Florida State opened with a spectacular 14-under 270 and added rounds of 279 and 280 to reach 23-under.

   Florida State also got strong showings from Lydia Gumm, a senior from Radcliff, Ky. who finished in a tie for fourth at 7-under 206, and Metraux’s sister Kim, also a junior who finished in a tie for eighth at 3-under 210.

   Notre Dame was led by Emma Albrecht, a sophomore from Ormond Beach, Fla. who finished in a tie for 10^th, sandwiching a 2-over 73 with 2-under 69s in the first and third rounds. Maddie Rose Hamilton, another sophomore from Louisville, Ky., finished a shot back of DiLisio at 6-over 219, including an opening-round 69.

   Jordan Ferreira, a senior from University Place, Wash., finished in a tie for 39^th at 223 and Mia Ayer, a freshman from Waco, Texas, finished 59^th at 236.

   Junior Alison Snakard, a teammate of DiLisio’s at Mount St. Joseph, competed as an individual for Notre Dame and finished in a tie for 60^th at 237. Her opening-round 75 was highlighted by a hole-in-one. Her first swing of the tournament came on the 157-yard, par-3 17^th at Belmar and her 5-iron shot found the hole.

   Alabama, the highest-ranked team in the field at No. 3, finished second in the team chase at 11-under 241. The Crimson Tide were led by Cheyenne Knight, a sophomore from Aledo, Texas who finished sixth at 6-under 207, and Kristen Gillman, a freshman from Austin, Texas who finished in a tie for eighth at 3-under 210. Gillman, the 2014 U.S. Women’s Amateur champion, is expected to be a big boost to the Alabama program.

   Clemson, ranked 44^th, finished third at 3-under 849 and was led by Alice Hewson, a sophomore from Great Britain who was the runnerup to Morgane Metraux in the individual chase. Hewson opened with a 66 and followed it up with rounds of 70 and 67 for a 10-under 203 total.

   Texas A&M, ranked 25^th, finished in the tie for sixth with Notre Dame and No. 51 LSU. The Aggies had a pair of top-10 finishes as Maddie Szeryk, a junior from Allen, Texas, finished third at 8-under 205 and Bianca Fabrizio, a senior from Italy, finished in a tie for fourth at 7-under 206. Szeryk fired a sizzling final round of 8-under 63, the low round of the tournament.

   Host Oklahoma, ranked 63^rd, finished fourth in the team standings at even-par 852. The Sooners were led by Hannah Wood, a junior from Centennial, Colo. who finished seventh at 4-under 209.

Rounding out the top five in the team standings was No. 16 Kent State, which placed fifth at 6-over 858.
